Writing meme: Post the first lines from each of your 25 most recent fanfic pieces and try to find a pattern. )

The most notable pattern, for me, is that the first lines of each fandom are more similar to each other than to the others. Overall, there's 10 of what I'd call setup first lines (ie when the beginning of the action happens, this is what's already going on...) and only #7 & #16 start with an emotional reaction/character monologue (although 7 could sort of count as setup and 16 as action as well). 11 start with action and there are three, all in the same fandom, that start with dialogue.

  • i just remembered that that korean guy from my high school whom, along with his best friend, i like to compare to momokai... picked madonna as his favourite music when we did a presentation on it in 10th grade. yeah, he analysed "frozen" as a work of poetry. why didn't that seem gay to me at the time? ...maybe the momokai analysis = even more valid than i initially thought.

  • i've been thinking a lot about friendship lately (and i just read a very interesting post by [livejournal.com profile] almostnever about it here). i thought i spotted the back of [livejournal.com profile] shiroi_chi's head at school on thursday. i'm about 99% sure it wasn't her - i'm pretty sure she's still in lithuania. but the interesting part was the way my heart gave a little leap of joy even knowing it was not her. actually, when i was leaving campus a couple of weeks ago i ran into [livejournal.com profile] anglepoiselamp and we walked into town together and the effect was similar. it's just funny to me how very happy seeing my friends unexpectedly makes me, when it's not like it's at all difficult to see them on purpose. it's something about the familiarity of your friends in the midst of strangers, maybe. (hee! speaking of the joy caused by seeing friends unexpectedly, [livejournal.com profile] isilya just imed me from the airport, then signed off again in less than a minute, before i had a chance to even respond; kanske hon va 2 sekunder från att va en one-minute man. ♥! even though i talk to her every day practically.)

this isn't the first insanely momokai-ish episode, but of the several high points, i think this one might be my favourite because of some of the dialogue under the cut which makes me go all quiveringly happy.

for [livejournal.com profile] pillarchallenge's AU challenge. this is the "library AU" in which tezuka is a research assistant and ryoma is a librarian. one line of dialogue stolen from someone in a chat a long time ago but i don't know who it was because the log is [livejournal.com profile] bookshop's so everybody is named stuff like "ts eliot" and "ingrid bergman" and "vivienne li". ts eliot, whoever you are, i apologise. note: thanks to [livejournal.com profile] bookshop for betaing and [livejournal.com profile] kessie for telling me it was okay to put data pair in. believe it or not, this extremely large quantity of crack was all originally inspired by this image from "band of princes" of the seating arrangement in the tour van.

i find it amusing that on this page of crack fanart advertisements for various airlines featuring tenipuri characters dressed in their colours, atobe kaidoh with remarkably atobe-ish hair represents finnair (possibly because the artist didn't think anyone else would be as believable swathed in a fur-trimmed coat).

[livejournal.com profile] wax_jism: well, that's some hobby.
me: i guess it takes all kinds.

i've been desperately craving inui/yanagi lately. (it's very sad when you're desperate for a rather unpopular pairing, isn't it?) so i asked [livejournal.com profile] kyuuketsukirui to translate the lyrics to yanagi's recently-released single, "answer", and she did. o.O translating tenipuri lyrics is sort of a gamble that they will turn out to be gay - they often do, but they're not usually this gay. they surpassed my wildest expectations!

now that my family are safe, i have no excuse (other than some transient pain, but i already took ketoprofen so i guess i don't have that excuse either) for my weird ennui. i think the problem was that i didn't finish what was supposed to be a very short piece of crackfic about band of princes before vacation, and even though i wrote a lot more of it while i was gone in spite of the disaster, i've lost some of my momentum for it. it's almost finished now, but it's also 9000 words, which means it's probably going to hit a thousand more before i manage to actually finish it.

another of my weird compulsions - like not writing more than one thing at once, for instance - is that i don't like to sidetrack myself in the middle of writing something by, say, watching anything that will claim my full attention, or reading anything that would do that. so even though i've started downloading the tenimyu and the prince of tennis manga, and we've got black powder war and throne of jade (and also my own copies of sorcery and cecelia and the grand tour ♥♥♥, which i finally got around to ordering), and my mom also finally found my copy of singin' in the rain... i haven't done much of anything in three days other than poke around after stray bits of tenipuri slash i may've missed and reread a georgette heyer mystery.

and, okay, yesterday i impulse-bought it - the only one in akademiska bokhandeln was they found him dead, but i can order the others from helsinki if i want to, and the fabulous thing is that a british publisher appears to be reissuing her mysteries in a set of very nice matching paperback editions! they have behold, here's poison too, and that's my favourite heyer mystery! ♥

last night i sort of randomly put together a crash course in inui/yanagi for [livejournal.com profile] perhael. the commentary is in chatlogs that i am too lazy to dig it out of, but it's possible somebody would be interested in the 54 caps from the rikkai semifinal arc i uploaded. they are in a gallery here, all in order and titled with episode number.

121: yagyuu's decision 122: inui hollers 122: inui hollers 123: conclusion of the remembered 123: conclusion of the remembered

why isn't there more inui/yanagi in the world? it's not like it's some totally obscure pairing like kajimoto/wakato or anything, since inui is one of the seigaku regulars. and look at their bittersweet nostalgia and inui's obsession and baby yanagi's heartbreaking angst! come on, world. help a sister out.

also last night, i sat down intending to start this futurefic i have been thinking about for some time in which tezuka is angsty, and ryoma really isn't, and there is probably smut. it's part of an ongoing conversation i've had with various people about tezuryo smut, and why there isn't more of it, and what it should be like, and why it is kind of hard to write it, sometimes. the first time i tried to address this problem i came up with "waiting is", which was much less explicit than i intended for it to be, so my next move was obviously to try ryoma point of view. anyway, that fic didn't happen. instead i ended up writing the beginning of a ficlet about the band of princes' american tour. we'll see how that goes.

oishi in a leotard. with a ribbon baton. )

i thought jessica biel would be a good enough reason to watch blade trinity, but actually it's really boring, even with the high jessica-biel's-abdomen content. the early buffy wax has been watching this week is way more entertaining. that season 2 halloween episode is really a classic.

last week [livejournal.com profile] shiroi_chi dragged me into a used dvd store and i succumbed to the temptation of dr strangelove on dvd (eller: hur jag slutade ängslas och lärde mig älska bomben! it says right on the box!). i only remembered how great it was and not any of its details, because i hadn't seen it in six years, but it was even greater than i remembered. and really, any movie where half the major roles are played by peter sellers can't go wrong.

i may have given some people the impression that i was on the internet today when, in fact, i wasn't, because almost as soon as i turned my computer on, i went to make a minor alteration to a grey flannel skirt and... that ended up taking seven hours. meanwhile, the cat knocked my mouse on the floor and somehow magically made it stop working, so whatever was said to me i missed in the ensuing restart. the only thing i DID do, in fact, was watch the cracktastic atobe short this morning.

cracktastic atobe short

and well oshitari might ask this question, because the cracktastic atobe short was so crack-filled that i actually did laugh until i hurt myself (specifically, my throat). i won't try to illustrate the crack now. but... eiji has on his wedding ring from band of princes again! )

and [livejournal.com profile] elfiepike: if you, by chance, heard the faint echo of a faraway high-pitched shriek last night, that was because i got your package and opened it and found THIS. omg. *_*

when you said postcards, i was thinking i would have to send one to you, but now of course i realise that i can never part with a single one of these. i should probably frame them as soon as possible. i will send you some other sort of postcard, instead.

a few days ago i spent the afternoon with the colourful [livejournal.com profile] shiroi_chi (her hair was orange this time) shopping, lusting after the new marimekko prints, watching csi:ny, and making tshirts. chi didn't make any, because she was too tired to operate an exacto knife for extended periods of time, but she claimed not to mind. i made two about fuji because he's really just THAT great, and although i thought about it intensively i could not come up with anything else i was dying to have on a shirt (although i realise now that a pink glittery "na, kabaji?" would be pretty good).

you think you can't love your show anymore because you fully comprehend that it contains infinite potential for gayness and crack, and while you know it will keep getting gayer, you are prepared for that and have, like, reserved the love in advance, right.

and then you get to an episode where the b-plot starts with fuji and taka strolling across town together1, being married, and seeing a bunch of bad omens, and taka's reaction is a cheerful "wow! another bad omen!", while fuji's reaction is "^__^ nnn...", and you think, wow, that's somehow indescribably great! sasuga tenipuri!

AND THEN you find out that canonically, fuji's godlike-ness is, like, catching, because apparently his whole family is psychic, because one of the omens makes him worry about his little brother, so he picks up the phone to call yuuta and gets an 'out of the area' error message...

...so he psychically breaks yuuta's shoelace from across town, using the power of his mind... and yuuta immediately knows it's a message and stops and goes, "ah - aniki?"

and don't worry. it definitely gets better after that.  also i just had to mention THIS.

and, also, ryoma and eiji clinging to inui in fright. :X

1. while, in the a-plot, kaidoh gets amnesia and thinks that he is a cat. no, really. meanwhile, everyone including oishi wants to cure him with tennis and only ryoma suggests taking him to the hospital.

okay, i'm like 10 seconds into episode 162 and the golden pair are already holding hands. i have a feeling i'm going to like this one. ♥:) and... :X OH YES. oh my god. this is SO CUTE. they're already in love on like the second day of acquaintance. AND ALREADY HAVING SPATS! gaaah. how can they fit that much schmoop into one episode! it's like a whole romance novel in twenty minutes! öaklsjfdöfas.

see? hand-holding in the (approximately) first ten seconds. and it only gets BETTER (by which we mean GAYER) from there, because this is tenipuri. this may be kind of a recap. okay, it is a recap, pretty much. 32 more caps. )

futurefic in which fuji comes by at closing time, taka-san makes fuji some wasabi sushi and fuji makes taka-san some tea.

and while i'm talking about taka/fuji, [livejournal.com profile] bookshop figured out tonight, because she is really smart, that FUJI is the explanation for taka-san's perpetual really, really good mood. i mean. being forced to constantly fulfill fuji's sexual appetites. NO WONDER. no wonder he's so mellow.
