the 'true story of
citizen kane', aka the story of orson welles's struggle to make it.
rko 281, that's it. co-starring john malkovich, who usually skeeves me like john travolta, and was actually GOOD, sort of like travolta in
pulp fiction. a fluke? perfect casting, excellent direction? the script? i don't know, but i loved the film.
who knew orson welles was so slashy? who knew he apparently had a heterosexual lifemate at the age of 24? and especially who anticipated the slashy undertones of the relationship scenes in the film?
ahhhhhhh.
the unthinkable may happen. i may slash john malkovich.
eta: it appears that some liberty was taken with welles's life for the film. from what i can tell, they really weren't much in the way of heterosexual lifemates, though mankiewicz wasn't the first older man to fall under the young welles's spell. who knows? maybe they had sex--he seemed to move around with his male partners and reportedly was up to all kinds of marital infidelity. the film cut the wife right out of it--sort of like the granada sherlock holmes.
it's hard to find stuff about these two men.
( mostly for my reference: some stuff. )
