community etiquette.  or not.

hey, i'm perfectly aware that i'm breaking the rules of the community, but i just wanted to and so i did it anyway and i don't really think rules should apply to me.

if you have to preface a post with "sorry if this is OT", you shouldn't post it, just like if you have to preface a speech with "i know this is going to sound ugly, but", you shouldn't say it.  the letters OT are not there for decoration or for fun.

and you especially shouldn't spam a community with OT questions that you could get answered someplace else.

if you don't know how to convert jpg to bmp the place to go would be a graphics community or a general question community, not a screencap-sharing community.  if you want to know whether squidge is really down and you can't find out at squidge, you should try asking individual people, not posting a message to a fandom announcement board.  no, not even if the major fandom archive and half the websites in fandom are hosted there.  if it's not a fandom announcement, it doesn't belong in the fandom announcement community.

i can't believe that people can't grasp this concept.

I finally had to unfriend that comm, even though it was sporadically useful, because KILL.

People are dumb like fuck.

yeah, but i can't lose it, man, that's the way i keep up with due south... it's bad enough the proliferation of new random ds communities. "new! hey guys i noticed there wasn't a community for people to share their personal experiences of dressing like ray kowalski, so i figured i'd go ahead and make a place!" "here's a community for people who only like fraser in a tux!" *STABINATE*

God, I KNOW. I have most of the fandom core on my flist, and I still watch flashfiction, so I can keep up without, but. Fucking new comms. Fucking idiots everywhere!

It's like new archives in fandoms that already have large central archives. STOP IT ALREADY!!!

but... ummm... why?

please tell me you're kidding.

[identity profile] norah.livejournal.com 2005-10-02 08:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Nope. Someone recently created a BSG 2003 "pairings" archive - even though BSG has a large central archive and a few largeish moderated archives. She asked to archive one of my stories - I (politely, I hope) declined.

... what is with these decentralisers? it's not GOOD! you're not filling a niche! you're not performing a service, you're MAKING FANDOM SUCK! you're making things harder to find. grrrrr. it drives me nuts. um, as i guess you can see.

hey guys i noticed there wasn't a community for people to share their personal experiences of dressing like ray kowalski,

...it's not just me? I have felt so alone.

[identity profile] cimness.livejournal.com 2005-10-04 12:48 pm (UTC)(link)
but what, are you saying you want a ray-kowalski-vestites GHETTO? why can't you kowalski-dressers just integrate nicely into the community with everybody else?
