community etiquette.  or not.

hey, i'm perfectly aware that i'm breaking the rules of the community, but i just wanted to and so i did it anyway and i don't really think rules should apply to me.

if you have to preface a post with "sorry if this is OT", you shouldn't post it, just like if you have to preface a speech with "i know this is going to sound ugly, but", you shouldn't say it.  the letters OT are not there for decoration or for fun.

and you especially shouldn't spam a community with OT questions that you could get answered someplace else.

if you don't know how to convert jpg to bmp the place to go would be a graphics community or a general question community, not a screencap-sharing community.  if you want to know whether squidge is really down and you can't find out at squidge, you should try asking individual people, not posting a message to a fandom announcement board.  no, not even if the major fandom archive and half the websites in fandom are hosted there.  if it's not a fandom announcement, it doesn't belong in the fandom announcement community.

i can't believe that people can't grasp this concept.

in a community for a comic i like, people regularly repost information, often of the same clip. they always put, "i'm sorry, i'm new, so if this has been posted before..." at the end like that makes it all better. it's gotten to the point where now the comments are keeping track: "look, it's post number seven with the exact same screenshot!"

I finally had to unfriend that comm, even though it was sporadically useful, because KILL.

People are dumb like fuck.
