ummmmmmmmmmmm. i haven't watched it for years. but i've seen it plenty of times and i was never impressed by the spock/mccoy possibilities on my early viewings, nothing to make an impression. of course i see plenty of canonical foundation for respect and affection between them--i love that about the big three, how mccoy is kirk's best friend at first, and then it's like, they have him in common, or do they actually ally against him? and in the end kirk and spock end up with mccoy as this like, shared best friend and oh ♥. and you can always take platonic affection and write slash about it if you want to. i just refuse to acknowledge any especially slashy merit to it. plus, i think it's absolutely ridiculous in the face of, you know. the rest of canon.
