tried to watch 'a discovery of witches'

A Discovery of Witches: I was just going to complain about how bad it was, but then I remembered Lost in Space. At least it hasn’t started raining on some ice here and had the water make the ice colder.

I feel like this comparison is going to be one I will make a lot, because it’s not often you reach such towering heights of ineptitude as reversing how ice works.

And that really did make me feel better about this show and its blonde Australian Kristen Stewart-lookalike with her subtly wrong American accent.

Matthew Goode is really good. And Finland was mentioned - yay!? - even if not convincingly portrayed, either in visuals or in the supposedly ‘Finnish’ accent. Its problem is that the first episode seems to depend entirely on the Harry Potter-like device of the protagonist doing the most egregiously foolish thing she can manage whenever faced with a choice (a pet peeve of mine, but not a violation of plausibility so far).

Oh, I'm so glad someone else watched it. It was terribly terrible! The pausing for dramatic tension in every single sentence delivery! The moody attractive lighting! And whoever forced wardrobe to dress that poor girl in nothing but eye-colour-matching clothes oh my God. And she is so unbelievably stupid how is she still alive?

I'm there for queer witch aunties though I imagine they won't get much screen time.

Oh, I kinda loved the OTTness of everything and the moody scene shots.

I'm just now listening to the book and it actually mentions her wearing periwinkle clothes :)

Then again, my base level of badness is pretty low--as long as it's better than Shadowhunters... (though now that I think about it, the accent may become as bothersome as that horrid red hair...)

...cimorene, my husband made his way through Lost in space (so I kinda watched it), and I fear that was some childhood nostalgia or something because there was honestly not one redeeming thing in that show for me...

Oh, I'll be trying another episode! You can't judge a show on just it's first episode. And thank you for sharing her eye colour name. I was thinking turquoise but periwinkle is awesome. :D

It's a very Mary Sue eye name isn't it?
And no, I think they're actually greenish in the book but she puts on a periwinkle scarf, and I just thought that's the perfect name for her eye color in the show :)

Well, I thought so. The acting in Shadowhunters is just so so bad, I feel.

And Lost in Space was just so beyond bad...I love some silly plot space adventure with papermache space ships on string. Heck, we regularly rewatch early Doctor Who. But this wasn't that...
