Umbrella Academy s1

I don't remember being incredibly annoyed by how stupid Luther was while reading The Umbrella Academy, but then, I don't remember very much of it at all and will have to reread it soon.

But just because a character annoys me all the time doesn't mean he doesn't make sense. People do annoying things in real life, obviously. Maybe it makes sense for him to be wrong all the time and extremely overconfident about it and self-involved exactly the least convenient 1% of the time? But I can't actually tell (is it bc I'm too annoyed, or bc the plot has too many twists and turns to analyze his actions without flowcharts?).

"Do you think they meant to make him really stupid?" Wax asked.

I'm honestly not sure. Were they aiming for a believable, relatable and internally consistent level of systematically doing the obviously wrong things, advocating that other people do the obviously wrong things, denying painfully clear facts, and being obnoxious about it?

I'll try to figure this out once I've reread it by, idk, reading reviews or recaps or something.

Both whether it makes sense (is internally consistent) and whether it's on purpose (done with the knowledge that it was going to be making him at times ludicrously thick), that is.
