Well, it does make it hard to remember the whole timeline, but on the other hand, it sort of looks like they didn't meet as often and didn't know each other well before then. Even if you don't go with this interpretation, they gave me the impression that they were friendly acquaintances without a fully solidified idea of what they thought of each other.
