He moved out and met his grandmother who just gave him up with no forwarding address when he was like ten and she's saying that he needs to come with her on a quest to save catholicism which will probably kill both of them but she won't tell him where they're going or what they're doing because that wouldn't be "faith" and the fact that he asked where they're going was an insult to her. Of ingratitude. And he gave in. Sorry for all the details. But the point is it got worse! Which I hardly thought possible! Ok the plus side it's definitely on purpose so hopefully he will grow up and learn better over the course of this book. I keep pausing to yell at the bad parent characters though which is a bit of a drag.
