one night i'll put my muk-luks on and ask her

+OMG, daddy gave me *one hundred dollars* for groceries! i can buy *all the avocados i want*, and tomatoes too!*

::faints::

+my bank's slogan is 'building and growing with the south'--does anyone else think that is the lamest slogan to ever sloge? i mean, what the fuck. it sounds like something from the Reconstruction. is the south's current level of, i don't know, growth/building represented, in the banking world, by an institution with only three branches covering two small-medium cities, and only two atms? not to mention that their computer system is often down, causing one's visa checkcard to be rejected?

*i think he felt bad about the curtness day before yest. i wasn't that hurt, but i'm ecstatic about the avocados. i am overflowing with filial devotion now, let me tell YOU.

hehehe. sharon lois and bram. i used to listen to them.
yay for tomatoes! i can't remember if i like avocados, though.

[identity profile] cimness.livejournal.com 2004-03-10 12:08 pm (UTC)(link)
*omg*.

okay. buy a large avocado, firm, no smushy spots, with a sort of red flush showing through the green skin. skin it. take out the core. cut the halves into a bowl. mix them with the juice of half a lime and two or three cloves of garlic. whip with a spoon. eat.

*so. good.*

they're *addictive.* avocados are going to become like a *habit* and it's almost as expensive as pot. i'm having to limit myself to one a day--the ones i bought today were $2.50 apiece! ::groan::

[identity profile] wolfsage.livejournal.com 2004-03-10 12:32 pm (UTC)(link)
sounds good. i think i'll try that.

[identity profile] cimness.livejournal.com 2004-03-10 07:11 pm (UTC)(link)
an avocado should be firm but give way a bit to the touch--just no specially squishy spots. if it's actually *hard*, or *really* firm, it's not ripe.

(spent like an hour in two grocery stores avocado hunting today--it's hard to get good ripe ones in the off-season. and so i learned more about how to distinguish them.)

[identity profile] wolfsage.livejournal.com 2004-03-10 07:24 pm (UTC)(link)
heh!

actually i mentioned that to my mom and she said we'd probably be buying avacados anyway, so i'll definetely try that. we're putting them in sushi.

[identity profile] cimness.livejournal.com 2004-03-10 08:05 pm (UTC)(link)
oh yes, i adore california rolls, and avocado rolls too, actually. in fact, i may prefer the latter. the pieces are so small, and so surrounded by vinegar, rice, and seaweed, that you don't get the full flavor, though.

[identity profile] wolfsage.livejournal.com 2004-03-10 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
i usually don't put vinegar in, but yes i know what you mean. mm california rolls. i don't like any asian food except japanese, and that i love.

[identity profile] cimness.livejournal.com 2004-03-10 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)
how can you have sushi rice without vinegar? i mean it's... half rice and half vinegar, practically. and you need it to be sticky!

[identity profile] wolfsage.livejournal.com 2004-03-10 08:38 pm (UTC)(link)
i always just buy the rice that's already sticky. its some sort of short grain, white rice, cooked plain.

[identity profile] cimness.livejournal.com 2004-03-11 02:43 pm (UTC)(link)
oh, thaaaaaat. chinese in origin perhaps. theirs is often short and sticky, by preference.

[identity profile] wolfsage.livejournal.com 2004-03-11 04:11 pm (UTC)(link)
that's probably right. i've always made it with that. never heard of using vinegar, but that's alright since i'm not a fan of vinegar at all.

[identity profile] wolfsage.livejournal.com 2004-03-11 06:57 pm (UTC)(link)
ONE bad experience with vinegar, and you're off it for good!!! X(

[identity profile] cimness.livejournal.com 2004-03-11 06:59 pm (UTC)(link)
'tell me more!' said the rooster!

[identity profile] wolfsage.livejournal.com 2004-03-11 07:08 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah.... uh. i sorta drank a glass of it. and the rest is TMI. ~_~

[identity profile] cimness.livejournal.com 2004-03-12 11:57 am (UTC)(link)
DRANK A GLASS??????

damn!

uh... why?

[identity profile] wolfsage.livejournal.com 2004-03-12 12:09 pm (UTC)(link)
...... ugh. i was, eheh, trying to induce vomitting. it, uh, sorta worked... i mean, i ended up throwing up about half the vinegar i drank (which burns like a BITCH btw) and the rest sloshed around in my stomach giving me heartburn for three days. yep. it was a fun experience, really. i'm a weird weird person. i don't even understand my motivations for certain things, looking back on them.

[identity profile] cimness.livejournal.com 2004-03-13 05:28 pm (UTC)(link)
o.0!

...

WOW.

mental note...

o.0 0.o o.0

[identity profile] wolfsage.livejournal.com 2004-03-14 01:12 pm (UTC)(link)
hehehe yep. do not ever ever drink vinegar. O_o

[identity profile] cimness.livejournal.com 2004-03-11 05:38 pm (UTC)(link)
i crave vinegar with some regularity. and eat dill pickles and green olives out of the jar. and salads drenched in vinaigrette. and salt and vinegar potato chips...

x.x

[identity profile] wolfsage.livejournal.com 2004-03-11 07:17 pm (UTC)(link)
uuugh. sorry. i don't like *any* of the things you've just described.

well, maybe i can eat a pickle or two if they are sliced thinly and put in a sandwich.

[identity profile] cimness.livejournal.com 2004-03-12 11:56 am (UTC)(link)
wow!

[identity profile] wolfsage.livejournal.com 2004-03-10 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
for curiousity's sake, how expensive is pot in the states?

[identity profile] cimness.livejournal.com 2004-03-11 02:35 pm (UTC)(link)
well, i'm not sure exactly. i mean, i've heard of people being able to get a wee bit for like $20 but the good stuff, like in american beauty, is obviously more. and i suppose closer to mexico it's less?

[identity profile] wolfsage.livejournal.com 2004-03-11 04:13 pm (UTC)(link)
wow... that's expensive. i heard that it was quite expensive outside of BC but i didn't really believe it. O_o

it must be cheaper where it's grown, that makes sense.

[identity profile] cimness.livejournal.com 2004-03-11 05:46 pm (UTC)(link)
like i said, i don't really know. i saw a deal go down at $20 once. i know lisa's bf, in mass., dropped about $100 on a very large bag. ::shrug::?
