being at work makes me want a 'promise ring'--not as a Symbol of Love and Commitment, but as a 'taken' sign. is that sad? i can't decide. it would make me feel somewhat safer. and it'd be way nice if it fended off obnoxious comments about boys.

It's not sad, it's perfectly reasonable.

My guy has been wearing a plain silver band on his ring finger for at least three years. I wasn't aware that he had occasion to fend off so many importunate advances, but he claims that's what it's for :)

advances and half-advances, you know? and impertinent questions and stuff. it'd just make me feel, er. safer. taken! don't even think it!

I wear a ring from my dad on my ring finger - if anyone asks, it's from Someone Special - and I often notice guys semantically backing off when I oh-so-casually bring it into their eyeline. Sometimes fends, sometimes does nothing whatsoever. But I like it. :)

sadly i'm allergic to baser metals and i don't actually own an appropriate ring. so i'll have to buy one. i'm not even sure if silver would irritate me, but it might.

however, i am seriously thinking about it. :)
