hey! teacher!

i spent the last few... four... five? hours looking at the course catalog and the website for my school trying to make a schedule for the coming year.  i still don't know how much credit any of the courses are worth or have any idea how many you're supposed to take, and i really haven't accomplished anything, but i have fallen into a giant gloomy pit of depressed panic and frustrated rage.  i'll never figure this out!  all the stress! i can't handle it!  i probably can't handle the real world either!  what am i doing in school! what would i do out of it!  if only i'd never been born!  you know how it goes.  [note:  no arguments about these.]

so i guess i will try to pick up with the course catalog again tomorrow, then.

wow, i was lucky last year.  not being able to take anything because of a language barrier simplified the selection process a whole lot.

Sounds like you need to talk to an actual person about the possibilities rather than looking at the website/written material, assuming you can find one? Or start by applying one criterion as a filter (how I chose my next MBA module was "Anything that does not require me to go on another %$&*! residential school").

Ditto on finding someone to talk to. Perhaps the international students office, or do they have something like we have in the Anglistik department here, a Fachschaft, which is a sort of cross between a simple club, and the students' representatives within the department. They can be very helpful.

well, we're supposed to have these tutors for first-year students--i'm going to go to the freshman orientation and try to get assigned a group again. the tutors are just older students, but they're supposed to answer this kind of question. i got one last year, but i didn't have to deal with any of these problems so i didn't end up having much in the way of questions. i did manage to overcome my embarrassment and text message my tutor from last autumn in case she knew somewhere i had to sign up.
