cimorene: cartoony drawing of a woman's head in profile giving dubious side-eye (bang)

okay, RAGE

this dvd store has verified by visa--which means you can order with an electron card,  but only if you can turn that on in your card, which i can't.  (i suspect this is because the bank doesn't have my finnish personal number.)  but no problem!  i have my visa check card, just as good as a credit card.  i keep an american bank account just so i'll be able to order stuff on teh internets.  great, right?

wrong! a billing address in the US and a shipping address in finland aren't compatible due to a "vat error", which i presume means the program designer has been dangled upside down with his head in a vat of poisonous chemicals and as a consequence is experiencing brain damage.

and to think i went to order dvds to calm down.  even though i actually did order due south, the failure of the sga-ordering has distressed me so much as to completely negate the effect.

The VAT error makes sense in a way because if the site's in the EU, the VAT is included in orders from other EU countries, but if you're ordering to the US, you pay the VAT at customs. So now their little confused brains are going, 'to VAT or not to VAT?' and it's all too much for them.

We can order with my card!

Also, hey, the Dutch box has Swedish subtitles, and the French box has Finnish subtitles.

In what universe does that make sense? Buh.

Also, whoo, it's only 35 euro! That's like NOTHING for a whole season. It's like a third of what an Angel box set costs in Finland. There's no earthly reason not to buy it!

A billing address in the US and shipping address in Finland will also set off all their fraud alarm bells: when I in the USA I couldn't use my Australian Visa online because the IP address showed American on a credit card with an Australia billing address. It was the Suck.

If that is a problem (and also to get around VAT), you could try ordering the package as a gift.

why shouldn't an american person want to buy something for someone in another country? what about the parents of exchange students? it just doesn't make sense. it's silly for it to count differently if it's a gift.
