new prince of tennis fic: "the case of the missing phonecall, or: favourable outcome", tezuryo, pg

the case of the missing phonecall, or: favourable outcome (≈12 300 words)
by cimorene
prince of tennis
tezuka/ryoma, pg
thanks to [livejournal.com profile] bookshop for the title and the original idea, as well as the beta.

in which tezuka and inui form a truce, ryoma shares tezuka's preference for mysteries over gothic romances, and tezuka keeps giving ryoma his phone number.

not at all! thank you for the comment. making someone love a pairing more is one of the most flattering things i could hear, i'm sure! ♥

[identity profile] cimness.livejournal.com 2006-05-25 06:14 pm (UTC)(link)
thank you for leaving this comment! i am smiling so much now. i'm delighted it made you happy and all aösdkljfaö about your comment about tezuka's chest knot. thank you. ♥♥!

:) thank you! ♥

thank you for the review! the comedy and crack elements of tenipuri are definitely some of my favourite parts. i was kind of indulging myself by sticking them in this fic even though it kept wanting to be serious, but oddly enough it seemed to all balance out in the end. :)

[identity profile] cimness.livejournal.com 2006-05-25 06:18 pm (UTC)(link)
why, thank you! :)

[identity profile] cimness.livejournal.com 2006-05-25 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
:) thank you! i know how you feel. i always feel inadequate in comparison when other people are productive. but in a good way! i'm glad you like this story at its scary length, too, since it is totally the reason i did not have fic for you in time for your birthday. :X

i appreciate your comments about characterisation - of course i think about it a lot, but it's always nice to have my opinions reinforced from outside. :)

[identity profile] cimness.livejournal.com 2006-05-25 06:23 pm (UTC)(link)
i love inui, and he was demanding to be allowed to be a fuji ex machina for once. also, i felt a little guilty about fuji always having that role... although as you see he didn't escape it entirely. i just love him too much that way. XD i'm glad you share my ryoma-saying-buchou kink. i guess most fans of this pairing probably do, but still, i just never get tired of it. ♥ thanks for your feedback!

[identity profile] cimness.livejournal.com 2006-05-25 06:26 pm (UTC)(link)
ahhahahahahah! thank you so much for this thoughtful review. i loved your comments. i think that you're really right about tezuka, and that - i mean, his totally earnest dryness - is what makes him so much fun to write as a point of view character, even when i also struggle with it. "he makes being a spazz look dignified." hahahahah. as for postmodern tragedy, i think it's easy to see how tezuka falls into that. he's just so naturally angsty! this story was supposed to be crack, but it hardly took three paragraphs for tezuka to start feeling soul-crushing angst. luckily he has ryoma around to prevent that from continuing indefinitely. ♥

[identity profile] cimness.livejournal.com 2006-05-25 06:33 pm (UTC)(link)
thank you! i have a great weakness for fluff which usually causes it to creep in even in the angstiest places, but in this story it was really the other way around - a crack bunny that just kept growing and growing and, thanks to the tezuka pov, turned perversely solemn. i think the cuddling is another thing that is mainly there because i love cuddling, so i'm glad it seemed to work. also, i think ryoma is totally a cuddler. just look at him with karupin. :X

as for the tennis matches, this part of your feedback really means the most to me, since i find them sort of agonising to write and i hate doing it. unfortunately, you're right that tennis is so intrinsic to their relationship - you certainly can't get away with no tennis at all, and actually consummating their love (*cough* - symbolically, of course) on the tennis court is practically necessary when they're still so close to canon.

ps. fuji appearing out of nowhere is my favourite scene too. :)

[identity profile] cimness.livejournal.com 2006-05-25 06:36 pm (UTC)(link)
thank you! i quite liked that bit, too.

[identity profile] cimness.livejournal.com 2006-05-25 06:42 pm (UTC)(link)
oh! that is a great compliment indeed. :X thank you! the scene with the arm-writing was why i wrote the whole thing. once i got to that part of the idea i realised i could not let it go unwritten.

*fangirls you* Wow.

What happened to the other slips? *is dumb* I love that Tezuka is taking advice from Inui...

XDD

hahah, thank you!

as for the other phone numbers - he didn't read the books.

That was so, so lovely. :)

Often, in comments, I say I'm speechless. But, if I'd tried hard enough, I probably could have been able to talk.

I've been sitting kind of moaning/humming/flailing at my computer for three solid minutes, with even keyboard mashing beyond me. Oh oh oh.

Now I remember. This is why I love this pairing, this fandom, these characters, the written language in general. Oh. This is it.

now my heart is full.

hmmm... i wonder if ryoma preserved the number on his skin for as long as he could... XD not that he would need to... XD

i absolutely adore your fic! the subtleties of their personalities and the way you put them together just rocks. it was really great!

^_____^

oh, wow. :) how flattering! i'm delighted you enjoyed it that much. i'm afraid i don't have much to say either; it's hard to know what to say to compliments like this. :) i really love this pairing a lot. and i kind of loved writing this story too.

[identity profile] cimness.livejournal.com 2006-06-12 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
hahaha, i thought about that, actually! alas, he can't really skip showers, what with tennis and all. maybe a bandage. or maybe he could just have tezuka write it again. he'd probably be mildly sad for a little bit, but then he'd read one of buchou's books or give him a call or something and get over it. anyway, thank you very much! i'm glad you enjoyed it. :)

[identity profile] haliaka.livejournal.com 2006-06-15 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I read this three times before trying to think of something constructive to say. And I still can't, that was quite simply amazing. It makes me smile everytime.

[identity profile] cimness.livejournal.com 2006-06-23 10:35 pm (UTC)(link)
that's a great compliment in itself! thank you very much. i'm glad you liked it. ♥

I finally managed to read this last night and by the end of it was too incoherent to say anything and went to bed. I woke up this morning and reread and it and by the end was too incoherent to say anything and went to make lunch. I think that if I don't eventually just leave incoherent feedback you'll never get any at all.

♥ ♥ ♥ This is absolutely incredible and lovely and I'll probably reread it a couple hundred more times. They're perfect and you're amazing.
