aozu & kyappu to bin: live tour in usa 2003 summer (≈17 000 words)
by cimorene
prince of tennis, band of princes universe (canonical boyband au!)
tezuryo and momokai; background taka/fuji and golden pair; suggestion of inui/yanagi. r.

one day, from breakfast till bedtime, in the life of two boybands.

note: thanks to [livejournal.com profile] bookshop for betaing and [livejournal.com profile] kessie for telling me it was okay to put data pair in. believe it or not, this extremely large quantity of crack was all originally inspired by this image from "band of princes" of the seating arrangement in the tour van.

Hmm...boyband AU, eh? I think I may have to read this despite not yet having read any canon. *bookmarks*

[identity profile] cimness.livejournal.com 2006-07-24 04:32 pm (UTC)(link)
well, it is a boyband au, but it's also got a lot of references to the canon quirks of the characters. you shouldn't have any problem following, though. especially not if you've read a few doujinshi.

Really, really good. I love how you detail Tezuka and Ryoma particularly. And the MomoKai was so good! Very believable. The whole thing just made me smile. And thank you for the lyrics!

thanks! my two favourite pairings. writing this was awfully self-indulgent for me. ;)

This is. Wow. Okay, trying for coherence, desperately.

This reads like a lost episode of the show, so much. Everything about it, the tone, the characters, the relationships, all of it could be canon. All of it should be canon. ;)

I have individual praise for practically every character, but basically, the Momo/Kaidoh here is so rich and true to them that I have to resort to flailing and making incoherent sounds, because I LOVE THEM SO. Your Fuji is always one of the most-loyal-to-canon Fujis I've seen (and at this point I realize this is probably my first feedback on your PoT fic, but I've read and loved everything). Eiji and Oishi, OH MY GOD. They are married, which we all knew. The epic love between Ryoma and Tezuka. ♥ Tezuka, who is so incredibly smooth but vulnerable here (Tezuka and his thermos! ♥), the way he thinks he's in control, but how could he ever be with Ryoma; and Ryoma, oh, Ryoma. I adore him. Tezuka-related expressions! (And yes, it scared me that even Fuji wouldn't understand Ryoma. Though I choose to believe that he does, because he's Fuji.) Inui/notebook! Um, I mean, Inui/Yanagi. ;)

Just. asdfghjhjlö!!11 You write everyone in such a way that the reader understands what they're feeling, why they're doing the things they do. You make me fall in love with one character after another, and I thought I already loved them all as much as I could. Reading this was like devouring sentence after sentence until you realize you're out of breath and dizzy and everything is perfect and you don't want it to end but of course it has to. And yet, that's not a bad thing at all.

And finally, Kikumaru shrieks and clings to Fuji in terror, smearing the faint dusting of glitter from his arms and cheeks on Fuji's shirt? I want a picture of this. :D

[identity profile] cimness.livejournal.com 2006-07-26 12:38 pm (UTC)(link)
oh! thank you for such lovely and long feedback! i always feel inadequate when i reply to feedback, so if this response is inadequate, allow me to apologise in advance. i'm delighted you felt that it was like an episode of the show. that's how i tried to think about it while i was writing it - like a crack episode, only with slightly more slash. i adored writing an ensemble like this, with crack and more crack and all my favourite pairings and everyone together as a group, because that is exactly what i love so completely and so passionately about tenipuri itself. thank you for all your compliments. i can't stop blushing. :) but for the record - i don't think fuji understands ryoma completely, though he has a better idea than most. there are a few times in canon when he surprises even fuji, and tezuka is the only one who is just quietly satisfied, because he already understands it all through their psychic connection. ♥

[identity profile] knw.livejournal.com 2006-07-24 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I really enjoyed this, anything that leaves you smiling widely when you finish has to be more than good ^_^ The MomoKai was really fun to read and TezuRyo moments were of course perfect. Fuji's Fujiness was fantastic and Eiji on his chair killed me.

The way you so easily encorporated their personalities into a singing career, taking so much from the show's brief glimpses and adding so much more... It was beautifully done ♥ Oishi seemed perhaps a little harsh on Momo and Kaidoh but I expect that was intended because of the stressful situations?

It was a fantastic read, one of my favourite of yours to date and I think a lot of that stems from how you touched on every character, even whilst focusing on those two central pairings. Can't wait for the next fic you do.

[identity profile] cimness.livejournal.com 2006-07-26 12:41 pm (UTC)(link)
hey, thank you! i'm glad you liked my characterisations. that's what i loved from the tiny bits we did see in band of princes, how everyone was still themselves, and i really, what would be the point if they weren't? that's the great thing about aus. i don't think oishi was any more anxious about momo and kaidoh than he is in canon - that's one of my favourite elements of tenipuri humour, his frantic desire to separate them. he's only trying to help! he doesn't want them to fight!

Excellent fic.

thank you! ♥

[identity profile] bellezainfantil.livejournal.com 2006-07-24 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think I've ever commented on one of your fics before, even if I'd read them. I feel as if you've completely captured everyone's personality. And that you're not just showing one facet of their character but various. This was great and I will now be HAPPY for the rest of the day. :D

[identity profile] cimness.livejournal.com 2006-07-26 12:43 pm (UTC)(link)
what a sweet thing to say! i don't know if anyone's ever told me i made their day before. :) i'm delighted you enjoyed the story.

I have had such a horrible day at work, and then I come home to find [livejournal.com profile] reposoir has updated her SP fic, and then you posted this. I love LJ. And you. And I can sit down with this and read because I'm on the evening shift tomorrow and and and ILOVEYOU. LOTS. ♥

[identity profile] cimness.livejournal.com 2006-07-26 12:43 pm (UTC)(link)
♥ love you too! *runs to read [livejournal.com profile] reposoir's new bits*

[identity profile] weirdlyyours.livejournal.com 2006-07-24 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, this was just so well-written and all the cameos just fit into their original personalities when they were playing tennis and not banging drums. The MomoKai was adorable and slightly violent and wonderfully them. But god, the TezuRyo was brilliant. I love how Tezuka is always watching and the songs they sing for each other and gah. Cuddling. ♥

Now I'm going to go read this over and play Arigatou and Hikari no Saki and eeeeeee. ♥♥♥

[identity profile] cimness.livejournal.com 2006-07-26 12:45 pm (UTC)(link)
heeee, thank you! characterisation is really the best part of tenipuri. i just love everybody. keeping the characters the same and changing the setting is the really fun part about an au. ♥

[identity profile] polyurethane.livejournal.com 2006-07-25 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
You just rock. Seriously. ♥

You have no idea how difficult it was for me to see this earlier today and be unable to throw work aside and read it RIGHT THEN.

Alas, work sucks balls and owns me, so...yeah.

Just letting you know that I'm taking this to bed to read because I'm too lazy to sit up any longer. ♥

I know you love these kinds of comments. :D :D :D

That was beautiful.

*cries*

Oh god. Oh god, that should have been in the AU. It might have been. :D MOMOKAI. And the TezuRyo. :((

[identity profile] cimness.livejournal.com 2006-07-26 12:47 pm (UTC)(link)
i love momokai so much. they seem to really be battling intensely for position as my #2 otp. right at the moment i think they are winning, too. god. momokai ♥♥ ;.;

[identity profile] kishmet.livejournal.com 2006-07-25 05:13 am (UTC)(link)

Your writing is always absolutely spectacular. I second (third?) the MOMOKAI. So much fun~! Oh, and Eiji was brilliant, and the TezuRyo interaction was perfect. I really wish I could say something better than all this, but. Seriously.

I'm printing this up and taking this to bed with me so that I can read it. Oh, this was beautiful. ♥♥♥♥♥ I am so happy right now that I could cry. You made my night.

oh, thank you! what great feedback. there is no way i can convey how pleased i am by it, but i am. and very flattered. i love momokai so very very much. i fear this story has hardly made even the tiniest dent in my thirst to think and read and write about them. and er. i'm so pleased you liked it. :) ♥

Gah. I know why you put it in there, but I just wanted to say that milk is generally considered bad for singers since it generally sticks in the throat and interfers with vocal range.

Hee. This was such a fun and beautiful read. Fuji's amusement was amusing, the way Momo and Kaidoh are in desperate need of a room, Echizen's nochalance and trying to hide that he was sick, you really got the characters personalities down well, making for a really great fic to read.

Definetly putting this in memeories. =D

[identity profile] cimness.livejournal.com 2006-07-26 12:51 pm (UTC)(link)
oh, as i'm sure you can tell, i am not a singer! [livejournal.com profile] bookshop apologises, though, as my singer-consultant, for not having caught it during beta. i'm afraid it's a bit late to change it now. thank you for telling me. :)

and also thank you for the feedback. the word 'nonchalance' is so fabulous. what a great way to describe ryoma. ♥:)

See my icon? That's me and this fic, living happily ever after. ;)

Really, I don't have words to express how much I loved and enjoyed reading this. (I wish I had, though. Then I could tell you a lot more eloquently how awesome Tezuka was in this, how much I adored Taka, that this was the best MomoKai I've read so far, that all your characterizations were spot-on and how incredibly perfect the end with Inui was. I also loved the part where Tezuka reflected on Ryoma's shyness towards him. That was great.) hearts; ♥ ♥

[identity profile] cimness.livejournal.com 2006-07-26 12:54 pm (UTC)(link)
ahahahahhaa. your icon makes for excellent feedback. and your incoherence - well, actually your feedback is plenty coherent to make me squirm and smile. i'm so flattered! thank you! you noticed my taka ♥ and momokai and i always love compliments about characterisation and. ♥

Ok, so first I gleed over the fact that this was boyband AU. Then I gleed over the fact that they were all so in love. And, yeah, I copy-pasted bits to quote back at you but there were too many of them, so I shall just quote this one bit instead:

Ryoma will never forget that time he sang so loudly in the garden that the neighbours called the police, or the time he put paperclips on Karupin's ears and a rubber band around his tail, or the time he snuck out and bought the bar down the street and paid the owner in cash.

because Nanjiroh is love. ♥

*flails with joy at this*

[identity profile] cimness.livejournal.com 2006-07-26 12:58 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah, i know how you feel. i mean - soinloveness is why we love tenipuri! and why we love boybands, for that matter. (i kind of can't help loving boybandness too, because, hello, boybands.)

and incidentally, my host father did that to the dog one time when i was in japan. thankfully, the dog was more confused than anything else. :D

[identity profile] lynnmonster.livejournal.com 2006-07-25 05:06 pm (UTC)(link)
LOVE.

The ensemble feel was just right, and all the little character touches were beautifully clear.

(Plus, your Momo and Kaidoh = HOTNESS.)

[identity profile] cimness.livejournal.com 2006-07-26 12:59 pm (UTC)(link)
thank you! i love the momokai. ensembles too, but at the moment, momokai is kind of at the top of my heart. i'm glad you enjoyed it!

A:FDK:DSJ:GJ LJ DIDN'T POST MY COMMENT LIKE WTF.

I am in love with this because unlike everything else that came out after Band of Princes, you've written this so that it's so them, and everybody was real and human and them eating in restuarants felt like you could actually see them sitting there in all their zany glory. I really adore the way you wrote Momo and Kaidoh (which is saying something, because I hate that pairing XD) like they're teenagers and they don't understand what's going on but they like it, whereas Tezuka and Ryoma are all understanding without speaking and caring with reserve and sleeping in bed without sex and that moment when Tezuka asks Ryoma if he wants to sing a duet with him? The best ever. You are amazing.

[identity profile] cimness.livejournal.com 2006-07-26 01:02 pm (UTC)(link)
ohhhh! what a great comment. :X i'm sorry my answer is bound to be insufficient to convey how delighted i am with your feedback. but i appreciate it, believe me. and i'm INEXPRESSIBLY pleased that you like my vision of momokai. that is how i love them, obviously. ♥ and your comment about them vs tezuryo is very very true too. the contrast in their ... approaches to relationships is kind of delightful, to me - tezuka and ryoma's profound and intellectual and complete soul-sharing, and understanding, and rapport, and partnership, and introspection; and momo and kaidoh's easy unquestioning squabbling and teamwork and yeah.

[identity profile] liathcosan.livejournal.com 2006-07-25 07:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Ok. I am... completely blown away at this moment. Such perfect characterization. Guh. Everything was believeable, everything. I loved the different forms of love (MomoKai vs. TezRyo vs. FujiTaka..) Done so well. Gaaah! I'm sorry I wish I had more to say that made sense and was like, a tribute to the amazingness but I can't get it out~ ;___;

[identity profile] cimness.livejournal.com 2006-07-26 01:03 pm (UTC)(link)
don't apologise for your feedback! incoherence is just as delightful and flattering, and warm to the author's heart, as coherence is. thank you for the note. i'm so pleased you liked it. :) and i very much appreciate your comment about different forms of love. i hadn't looked at it that way.
