note: thanks to bookshop for betaing and kessie for telling me it was okay to put data pair in. believe it or not, this extremely large quantity of crack was all originally inspired by this image from "band of princes" of the seating arrangement in the tour van.

yeah, i think you're right that novellettes and novellas are rarer than short stories, but i think it's true throughout all of fandom. participating in the fanfiction part of fandom involves reading and writing a fairly high volume of fiction. the shared universe is changing all the time as new stories are posted. shorter ones are more practical to consume and to produce, so in most fandoms there are far more of them. at the same time of course, there's a lot more room to explore characterisation in a long story. they may be exhausting to write, but that part is also fun. i'm flattered by your comments about characterisation - it's my favourite part of fanfiction. capturing a character from canon and making the reader see my perspective on him, making that transition seamless - that's what writing fanfiction is all about.
