note to universe

dear universe,

i want:

  • a new lj layout

  • more (and more, and moooore) aiba/sho (nb this is not a criticism of [livejournal.com profile] elfiepike, but a hearty accolade! her valiant efforts to provide it for me despite being totally tired are brilliant and incredibly heartwarming!)

  • to go to the movies (this always happens after i read empire and total film. british people, can you tell me why your magazines are so much cooler?)

  • a winter coat. magically. without having to go shopping for it.

  • a trip home to alabama

get back to me on those things, okay?

love, cim

today feels like sunday because we slept till noon (me) and 14:00 (wax) and wax has to work tomorrow. mmm, we could make the illusion complete by eating donuts when we go into town.

my sister is going to moundville this weekend for our church's annual halloween campout, and i wish i were going. i want to paint kids' faces, chat over the potluck, roast marshmallows in the bonfire, pass out candy in costume in a field illuminated by jack'o'lanterns and tea lights, and have a sunday morning service sitting on the ground. i don't think that's even the way they do it anymore (the service at least) - and i know the church she goes to has changed and isn't the same one i grew up in. but i miss it anyway, and i'm feeling nostalgic for halloween (thanks in part to [livejournal.com profile] anglepoiselamp). i'm really wanting to paint at least my own face, but we've only got acrylics and watercolours in the house, no tempera paint. grrmmmph.

[livejournal.com profile] wax_jism just revealed that grey's anatomy is the top show of the week. seriously, people, why? grey's anatomy sucks. i watch it anyway, but - really. it sucks.

What's Halloween like in Finland?

from what i can tell, people (not normal people, just children and college students, apparently) have some parties. some of them are costume parties and some of them aren't (the traditional finnish celebration of a public holiday involves drinking in the streets/in bars or in small groups of friends at someone's home). there's no trick-or-treating, but children still buy costumes - maybe they have parties at school or something.
