cimorene: cartoony drawing of a woman's head in profile giving dubious side-eye (princess)

rename token?

The 1s in my username have long plagued me. They're a leftover from when I first got an aim name at the tender age of 14, if you can believe that, and about 11 years old now (the same age as my dog, coincidentally).

The problem is that the usernames cimorene and cim are already taken on livejournal. Last year [livejournal.com profile] isilya went to a great deal of trouble trying to get them for me from the teenies who haven't updated them in like 8 years, but didn't have any luck. I've thought a lot about what I might do with a name-change token, like cimorenest or cimorened, both of which are okay but not wholly satisfying. Now I'm thinking about [livejournal.com profile] cimness, which is currently my writing journal. It's also my current aim handle and my favourite of several nicknames, because it preserves the desired regal air along with an infusion of whimsy. It would be an exact representation of my personality if it also had a whiff of misanthropy, elitism, or at least snark, but one can't have everything.

So it's not like I need it as backup of my fiction. I have webspace at cimorene.net and plenty of room for backups on waxjism.org and also some emergency backup space given to me by the gracious and lovely [livejournal.com profile] anatsuno at cimorene.anatsuno.net as well. So I've been thinking about that.

Oh man, I know the pain of people who won't give up names and that you can't get a hold of. It pains me that I can't have [livejournal.com profile] renne so much. :/

Doesn't it perk up your rightously outraged feelings of superiority? Like, people know you as Renne and me as Cim all over fandom! And for that matter, people like Resonant who are actual BNFs. Who the hell knows this Renne person or this teenie who stole my name? Whereas I've been using it for years! For an actual purpose! Once you look at this feeling logically it falls apart, but I can still feel miffed that the usurpers aren't even using their journals. I mean, [livejournal.com profile] isilya offered them money, and they've clearly moved on; even if they hadn't, it's very easy to move the content to a different journal!

[identity profile] futureperfect.livejournal.com 2007-12-28 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
That's exactly it! If they were actually using their journal I might be able to put my righteous indignation on hold! If it was active even just a little bit, but no.

And their email address doesn't even work for the purposes of offering them money! (I can't believe they were offered money and didn't take it. Who wants a stagnent LJ name anyway??)

Oh well. I shall continue to wait patiently for LJ to finally decide to purge those journals. /optimism

I like Cimness.

I like Cimness too, but you could also just change your spelling. Both cimoreen and cimorine are available. Just a thought.

I thought of that! I mean, not those particular ones. But I feel reluctance because I took the name after my favourite heroine and Patricia Wrede spells it with an ene! But I think I might just use "cimness" - I go by Cim far more than Cimorene these days, anyway.
