kitchen failure

There's a thin and extremely sticky gummified brown coat of oil cooked onto the bottom of the oven, and it almost completely covers the surface. It won't come off with scrubbing, except for in a thin layer of brown grime on a scrub brush, but it will start burning up as soon as the oven heats up. So I guess I need some oven cleaner. And no, this has never happened to me before! If you know of the common household product that will remove this grime, please, tell me.

In related news, I accidentally used too little butter in the cookies I was making and the batter was dry. So, in my flustered state, along with the rapeseed oil I was gradually drizzling in I drizzled in some boiling water to make it easier to stir... but, uh, I forgot about the chocolate chips. Which all melted. So. We'll see how that turns out tomorrow. After I'm actually able to turn the oven on again.

1) using a dough blade or putty knife (something with a long, flat edge) and a lot of elbow grease. scrape.

2) ajax/comet the whole thing, spritz with a bit of water, and using a lemon cut in half, scrub. lot of elbow grease.

3) easy off.

Are those supposed to be three steps, or three options? o_O

three options, but it could be three steps, should step 1 and step 2 fail.

Well, that's reassuring. As three steps it sounds like a good hour or two's work. Although I wish I had one of those magical dirt-erasers...

you gonna need more than one if that grime's on most of the surface area! also, elbow grease.

the magic eraser's pretty magical, though. if only i was in the mood to clean...

:/ I'm not even sure where I can buy one anyway. Too bad I'm dying for cookies, because otherwise I rarely make a trip to town just to buy cleaning products!

step four could be "call jack bauer."

[identity profile] cimness.livejournal.com 2008-06-16 09:28 am (UTC)(link)
SUCCESS! Using a mixture of scraping vigorously with a kitchen knife and scrubbing vigorously with baking soda/lemon kitchen cleaner/an old toothbrush!

Bigger stores in Finland sell Uuninpuhdistaja. They don't require anymore that you would heat the owen or anything, it's easy. Needs a good and a bit time consuming washing, unfortunately.

What I would use are these miraclean/magic sponge thingies, the white sponges that work like eraser to dirt. They work on everything, no matter how stuck or burnt! No chemicals, you just rub!

I will look for them! But I bet our nearby store won't have them...
