who was talking about reality as west wing rpf?

GAH. I've just scrolled back three days on my flist looking and I can't find it. I give up!

Which one of you darlings posted recently about how Obama and his to-be staff going to the White House is like The West Wing RPF after the fact, because a character from the show was based on Obama and the guy Josh was based on (or the guy Sam was based on?) has been asked to be his chief of staff (unless I've got the details all wrong?) C'mon, correct me!

You mean this (http://hackthis.livejournal.com/507708.html)?

[identity profile] cimness.livejournal.com 2008-11-06 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Nope. I mean, that's the same piece of actual real-life news, but it's a totally different comment about it.

No, not the fact that Santos was based on Obama, but the much more coincidental fact that Josh was also based on Rahm Emanuel, who has just agreed to be Obama's Chief of Staff.

My last two posts are about it (I posted a clarification since it appeared people interpreted my first post as being solely about the Obama-Santos parallel).

I seem to have had that problem too, just now. Hadn't seen your posts before, though - I read it from [livejournal.com profile] coquettemoves.

I'm gonna wear this icon out

I don't know the post of which you speak, but the people are as follows:

Congressman Matt Santos = Senator Barak Obama
Josh Lyman = Rahm Emanuel

In the later seasons of TWW, Josh convinces young upstart Matt Santos to compete for the Democratic nomination, which he wins after an epic nomination fight. (Josh and Toby have a falling out over this, as Josh is running Santos's campaign and Toby's working for someone else - or so sayeth Wikipedia. I stopped watching after Season 4 when Sam was replaced by McDrippy.)

I found a little video summary thing when I googled about it, but I didn't actually realise that Toby had left to work for someone else. Sam AND Toby gone? Yikes!

Jezebel has heard your cries and has provided the slashiest photo EVAR of Obama and Emanuel:

On a somewhat related note, I just bought the entire West Wing collection for €80. I'm excited like you wouldn't believe. :D

[identity profile] cimness.livejournal.com 2008-11-07 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, that's way cheap for how much you get, but still kinda a lot at once. Buying one season at a time is a false economy maybe, but at least it lets you break it up a bit.

[identity profile] kessie.livejournal.com 2008-11-07 09:53 am (UTC)(link)
If I bought each season separately, it came to about €100-ish, but I'm planning on working my way through slowly. People have been reccing this show to me for years, so I finally figured what the hell. XD; One of my co-workers just bought season one a few weeks ago and is fuming!

[identity profile] cimness.livejournal.com 2008-11-07 02:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I used to watch when I was in high school, but it got too hard to keep up when I first went to college, so I only watched seasons 2-4 or something like that. I really loved it, but dvd box sets weren't so widespread back then, I didn't have much chance of getting my hands on the parts I missed for years...

[identity profile] coquettemoves.livejournal.com 2008-11-07 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
Me? Maybe? If not EVERYONE ELSE IN THE WORLD.

[identity profile] cimness.livejournal.com 2008-11-07 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
Strangely enough, there was only yours on my flist! And that was totally it, thanks.

[identity profile] coquettemoves.livejournal.com 2008-11-07 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
Hahaha, I enjoy how a bazillion other people had the same idea, though.

Oh West Wing Reality...how I longed to be in you, and now that I am, it's SOMEHOW EVEN BETTER. (Where is CJ?!)

[identity profile] cimness.livejournal.com 2008-11-07 07:37 am (UTC)(link)
I hold out hope for a CJ.

[identity profile] kudra2324.livejournal.com 2008-11-07 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
i posted about it, but i am not actually on your friendslist :).

i was also noting that this would make josh lyman related to ari gold...

[identity profile] stlkrchck.livejournal.com 2008-11-07 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
so this isn't about emmanuel specifically, but there was a times article you might like about the parallels between season seven and the entire campaign, as the intentional and unintentional ones are spooky! http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/30/arts/television/30wing.html?ref=politics

[identity profile] cimness.livejournal.com 2008-11-07 07:38 am (UTC)(link)
LOL! I never watched s7 though, so that'd probably just confuse me.
