we went to a wedding--one of my mom's closest friends from grad school, who is a lot younger than she is because he went after college and she waited until my sister was born. when i was in eighth grade and he was a dorky bachelor he used to come over every friday to watch xena and hercules with us. his house was decorated with babylon 5 action figures still in the packages.

our house is largely decorated with his woodblocks--well, no, largely with my mom's, but we've got two big ones of his i can think of (one of the tolkien dwarves from the hobbit and one of menolly from mccafrey's dragonsong), plus a two-panel (diptych?) piece in black on cream that's a giant montage of characters from greek mythology, in a gold frame, which is absolutely gorgeous and the focal point of our living room. something else he and my mom have in common is that they're both printmakers.

anyway, the wedding was nice-ish, though the bridesmaids' dresses had those silly little sleeves and weren't very flattering. his wife seems nice, although i have heard that she doesn't like dragons o.O O.o o.O.

My best friend's a printmaker. It's fun watching her struggle to explain what printmaking is to the general public. In the latest incident: "Oh, so you copy other people's art?" and "So you draw with ink? Do you like comic books? I know this guy -- you can be a tracer --"
