it's raining men in cravats and waistcoats

A hilarious music video: Period Drama Montage "It's Raining Men" by DreamyViper @YouTube. Fairly decent vidding relying mostly on Austen films, Hornblower, and Wives & Daughters. There's some stuff like North & South that I haven't seen; the absence of Master and Commander struck me forcibly, especially given Hornblower's presence.

But then, even more striking is the extreme lack (in existence, I mean, not in the vid) of other dramas from near the same period as Austen. I want more delicious production design and costumes. Sigh.

Man, I spent most of the video going “But where's Colin Firth in a lake?!”

I was so relieved when he appeared. It would have seriously challenged my world-view if he hadn't shown up.

LOLL. Yeah, she should've opened with him, got it out of the way, to kill the suspense. That said, I think it could've been even cooler with more source material. There are several recent Austen adaps that she left out!

Probably (because of the internet's seriously skewed sense of priorities,) the unavailability of DVD rips.

Hmmm, yeah, maybe. They aren't that expensive, but I suppose some people's dvd purchase threshold is higher.

I clicked the video link before reading the rest of the post - I thought it was going to be about menstrual cycle drama.

notably, there's no master and commander in part because there's no hornblower*? (just ioan gruffudd!) i need to watch more period shows/movies--the aesthetic of the productions are, are you say, totally delicious.

* edit: of course, this isn't meant to imply that there's actually a causal relationship. aaaand i'll stop now.
