Shopping for sf cons in the Southeastern United States with the fam

"X and Y are the guests of honor, but I don't know who they are," said my sister.

"I don't either, but I know I'm not interested in their work because they're both men," I said.

My dad said, "Yeah. And weren't all the other names on the list of guests men, too?"

(They were... except for one.)

Are you looking for industry run or fan run cons? How important are room parties? What size are you looking for? How much anime do you want with your sci-fi? Are you only going for the guests of honor or do you look at overall programming?

I gave up looking, but given that we'd all be going, I'd say none of those things matter too much except minimal anime. We'd most likely choose based on guests of honor over programming, but we would like to see generally interesting programming as well. But my favorite that I found (really the only one in the southeast I found that seemed at all suitable) was Con Kasterborous, the Doctor Who con that I think is in Memphis.
