do newbies give anyone else great pain?

not, like, let's kill all the newbies. but just because i remember being... a painfully earnest newcomer to fandom and. yes. ouch. although i was generally moved to investigate and figure things out on my own rather than asking people, cause i felt silly.

yes, and it's like... i was ashamed of not knowing, or not ashamed exactly, but i just... would rather know.

plus, asking how to make those composite pairing names is really bizarre because it's so HORRIFICALLY self-explanatory. all you have to do is look at it to know how it's done. and common sense could tell you that some are better than others, that some are more popular than others, that some people don't like a certain name and others do, that there's no central Pairing Name Authority, or guidebook.

exactly. you can tell it's a newbie when they want to do things exactly correct and think there's some sort of rules for fandom.... it's fandom! we're making this shit up as we go!
