thanks to [livejournal.com profile] bookshop for the title and the original idea, as well as the beta.

in which tezuka and inui form a truce, ryoma shares tezuka's preference for mysteries over gothic romances, and tezuka keeps giving ryoma his phone number.

Excellent. A singularly satisfying read. I admire that you were able to so effortlessly make both Ryoma and Tezuka believable characters. Tezuka especially, since he is the narrator, has this matter-of-fact-ness to him that really moves the story along. He does everything with such an easy confidence that even when he's being a complete, lovestruck dork, it probably doesn't occur to him that there's an easier way to go about wooing Echizen. He makes being a spazz look dignified. It's very refreshing to read a Tezuka whose restraint is not a monumental crisis, but merely a personality trait. Also, one who is not the source of his own kabuki-esque postmodern tragedy. ^_^

That Echizen NEVER looked at the bookmarks was . . . well, it was very Echizen. Dorks in love. <3

ahhahahahahah! thank you so much for this thoughtful review. i loved your comments. i think that you're really right about tezuka, and that - i mean, his totally earnest dryness - is what makes him so much fun to write as a point of view character, even when i also struggle with it. "he makes being a spazz look dignified." hahahahah. as for postmodern tragedy, i think it's easy to see how tezuka falls into that. he's just so naturally angsty! this story was supposed to be crack, but it hardly took three paragraphs for tezuka to start feeling soul-crushing angst. luckily he has ryoma around to prevent that from continuing indefinitely. ♥
