perhael and I have combined our expertise to create this tiny list of readable Stewart/Colbert slash. The thing is, there's really not much to read, and it's hard to find the readable stuff for several reasons, and most of the little that exists is sucky, and... well, sometimes, if you're like us, you might really, really wish for the pairing, and rail at the unfairness of the universe because you can't properly satisfy the craving.

Jon/"Stephen" stories: "Stephen" is code for Colbert in-character - the host of The Colbert Report. All of these are humour, extremely short, and would be preslash if they weren't kind of too cracky.

Prey Mentality by sailorptah. "Stephen" POV. The one where Jon Stewart's hotness is sexually harrassing him.

Ratings by roadstergal. The one where "Stephen" wants to use gay sex as a publicity stunt.

Birds of a Feather, by mercuriazs. The one where "Stephen"'s pet bald eagle has two daddies.

The Strange and Not Entirely Ineffective Courting of Jon Stewart by Stephen T. Colbert, by Sparky77. The one where "Stephen" issues a public denial that Jon is going to be his running mate.

How Stephen Colbert Proved Jon Stewart is a Lady, by sarken, in which "Stephen" proves logically that Jon is a woman because he smells good. And courts him.

Jon/Stephen stories: stories about out-of-character Colbert are harder to come by. All of these are completely inexplicit vignettes of a few hundred words. For the first, you have to join

Trust, by foureyedsnail. About 300 words of banter with the first line, “Do you trust me?”

Schools of Thought, by sigarilyo. A well-executed 100-word drabble.

Breaking the Law, by nm_317. In which it is illegal to flirt in New York City, but Stephen does it anyway.

perhael and I like to call a faildom. That's because there's actually no fic at all in it that both doesn't suck and is longer than a couple of hundred words. So my chances don't look good. :|

A few Yuletide recs

The Strange and Not Entirely Ineffective Courting of Jon Stewart by Stephen T. Colbert was miscategorised as RPS on the site when it's actually FPS about the in-character Stephen from The Colbert Report.

Those Who Favour Fire Diana Wynne Jones's Eight Days of Luke. A strange, bleak little story about Luke turning David immortal.

Rite of Passage is a short sad futurefic about Leon (The Professional) with a Surprise Crossover.

Things We Can't Untie: Or, Gay Perry and Gay Harry and the Gay Jewels of Nabooti, for Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (2005), in which Harry decides to talk Perry into sleeping with him.

Still Life with Lipstick, The Devil Wears Prada. Andy is sent to write a story on fashion week and runs into Miranda.

The Lady Running, a Lucy/Tumnus Narnia futurefic. She isn't as innocent as Tumnus thinks. This pairing... ahahhahaah.

There was a small crop of Die Hard 4 fic:

Just That Simple Thing, in which John McClane's Christmases are cursed so he's given up on them, and Matt wants to change his mind about that. Fluffy and very sweet with pretty good dialogue, though.

How Enos Finally Caught Daisy (Or, Possibly, The Other Way Around), a sweet post-movie courtship starting when Matt sends John an iPod.

And a larger one of Hot Fuzz fic:

Film Studies, in which Danny's plan for seducing Nick owes a lot to action movie plots and he isn't able to stick to it.

Bend Hard, set in the hospital right after the end of the movie, mostly dialogue.

Step Into Christmas, a very fluffy Christmas first-time in which Nick changes his mind about working through Christmas.

Settled In A year post-movie, Nick hasn't noticed that he and Danny are dating.

Why is it that telemarkerters feel free to call and wake you up? It was 10 am! It wasn't late enough for telemarketing! And Wax was all confused so she actually answered the fake 'survey' questions.

One problem I didn't think of with my 'potatoes and eggs = complete proteins' food strategy was that I'm too lazy to cook potatoes in the morning. And now I'm sort of starving and we don't have any milk or jam or yogurt or anything.

Okay, and I just wanted to share this thread/post: TINHATTERY REACHES NEW HEIGHTS. As the commenter says, the high point was "Now, I'm no bread expert, but...".

I read several hilarious and/or upsetting pieces of badfic today, including the most gratuitous and bizarre fictional context for child rape I have ever seen (and the child in question was Jon Stewart), with all kinds of hilarious badreader feedback praising their brilliance, talent with the English language (apparently not covering punctuation or modifier placement), eloquence, and sensitivity.

perhael and I discussed why Jon Stewart always seems to be a weepy bottom and why, in fact, there's so much bad d/s in his fandom and he's always the sub. We don't know, but we feel the situation should be rectified. We have a banner and nebulous plans to create pseudonymous fiction with Jon on top.

I also had time to rewrite the ending of my Frank/Gerard story, so now it's just waiting for beta and I'm free to write Ray/Bob again, or work on the werewolves, or - wow, has my to-do list been whittled down so far, to just a couple of novels? Ahahah. Still in urgent need of a beta, though.

Thanks to

perhael, I was inspired to spend last night and today reading a lot of The Daily Show badfic. This is a good thing because I've felt the need to read compulsively the last few days - it's my counterphobic coping mechanism and I'm frustrated with the writing.

And okay, it's a really amazing small fandom. I mean, on the one hand, the entire premise is some really intelligent humour and political commentary, and also some stagegay of course. So where does all the plebefic with no sense of humour come from? Why does a writer with no sense of humour find herself drawn to the show? But that's not the only mystery. There's some really amazing bad. There is clunky dialogue! There is lots of Cheating Bastards, and also Mean Wives Who Divorce Them So They Can Be Together, and also We're Gay for Each Other, Yet That in No Way Diminishes What We Feel for Our Wives either Sexually or Emotionally! There is Anderson Cooper the ~~Magical Negro~~ Magical Gay Man Yenta! There is anguished, platonic nuzzling that stirs Stephen Colbert's soul! There is, in a strange twist that made me wonder if I'd accidentally stumbled into a crossover, Vicodin withdrawal and Vicodin overdose in the same fic! There is mpreg and D/s and bizarre future AUs!

I also found like a couple that weren't bad, but that's much less interesting. And then I ran out again, and now I am badficless.
