BLIZZARD, and also BLIZZARD. and pollspam

Hey, also, I don't think I mentioned that it's basically been snowing for over 24 hours here, and for most of the middle of the day it was snowing like sideways in that "window/balcony is solid white" sort of way. But at no time during the blizzard has it been above freezing. It wasn't even sticking till noon or so but finally the sheer mass of snow just built up so it couldn't melt fast enough. OH YOU CRAZY WEATHER. I need a tag for "crazy fucking weather" or possibly "LOL global climate change" or something to that effect.

Meanwhile Veronica Mars is in severe danger of cancellation, or alternatively of s4 skipping 4 years into the future with her as an FBI agent.

And here are the movie posters and a ton of high-res stills from Becoming Jane (Jane Austen biopic starring Anne Hathaway) and they're gorgeous and I'm getting excited. Also, 4 stars from Empire and a very promising review. Yay! Time to make icons! In honour of that, and of my convincing [livejournal.com profile] aeslis to read Austen for the first time evah, a poll.

[Poll #949125]

It snowed here today! Well, it rained and then snowed, so sadly none of it stuck. I felt really bizarre, walking to the tram with my umbrella and seeing all the white flakes swirling around me.

I am so excited about Becoming Jane. I'm actually starting to really like Anne Hathaway now that's she's ditched her Disney contract. I bought The Devil Wears Prada a few days ago and it looks set to become my new favourite comfort after a bad day film. I have the biggest crush on Miranda!Meryl Streep, ever.

Also, uh, the fic is coming to you. I swear. I got very angsty about it last night and spent today rewriting bits and trying to resist the urge to dump it in the trash and start over in a very limited space of time. :|

[identity profile] cimness.livejournal.com 2007-03-18 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh good, because I was a bit worried about the fic.

And omgIknow! I loved Meryl Streep already but my love drastically increased after I saw The Devil Wears Prada.

I think Anne actually sort of looks like the portraits of Austen that I've seen while also being more beautiful and... yeah, I'm quite excited now too. The positive review was a big relief.

When I was out walking my face turned numb and my coat was covered in a solid white layer like icing on a cake.

[identity profile] kessie.livejournal.com 2007-03-19 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
I sent it to you. I can hardly look at it anymore. :(

I always had a crush on Streep (I loved her in The Hours as well. Actually, I loved The Hours, period), but the minute I saw the trailer for TDWP, my jaw dropped and I went all *_*.

Yes, she did actually remind me of Austen's portraits as well. I'm just excited for the whole thing in general, while my flatmates at pretty much excited for it because of James McAvoy in period costume. :D

...ow. Ow, ow, ow. D:

God, I can't wait to curl up in bed with a book. I'm contemplating making a cup of hot chocolate but just curling up right now requires much less effort. Mmm.

[identity profile] cimness.livejournal.com 2007-03-19 08:24 am (UTC)(link)
I haven't seen that. I think I hadn't seen anything with her in it up until The Manchurian Candidate, where it was immediately apparent how cool she was. But the casting was aces in TDWP! *Sigh* Hilarious. Wonderful.

And James McAvoy in costume is not to be sneezed at. He's so wee and adorable in those stills! His tiny little face and velvet jacket!

And I got your email so I shall look at it now.

Yank playing Austen?

You left out option F: "I don't give a damn, because these kind of films don't interest me in the slightest". Srsly.

Also, Jane Austen is overrated. As a matter of fact, to is Maggie Gyllenhaal. And Veronica Mars. The only thing not overrated in this poll is Toll House cookies, because Toll House cookies clearly rule.

For that option people are free to not vote at all, because I wasn't really interested in the percentages there.

You know, I actually don't think I've ever read anything by Jane Austen come to think of it. It seems like I should have at some point, but while those titles all ring a bell (and I've seen one film of Emma, the one with Ewan in it), I actually have no idea what they're about.

As for cookies, my current favorite is made with peanut butter m&ms. That way you get yummy peanut butter, some chocolate, and the crunchy candy shell as well. In fact, I think I may have to go to the store tonight and get some peanut butter m&ms...

[identity profile] cimness.livejournal.com 2007-03-19 08:17 am (UTC)(link)
Oooh that didn't occur to me. I don't think I've heard of that variant.

I don't remember what made me try it the first time, but omg, they are so good.

I CAN'T TAKE THIS POLL BECAUSE YOU LEFT OUT OPTION 'GENERALLY PRIDE AND PREJUDICE EXCEPT WHEN IT'S OR PERSUASION, EXCEPT FOR EVERY SINGLE TIME I REREAD EMMA, OR MANSFIELD PARK, OR NORTHANGER ABBEY SAJDFAWIOFJAWFSD D:'

[identity profile] cimness.livejournal.com 2007-03-19 01:32 pm (UTC)(link)
You wanted a no favourite option? But that like, doesn't tell me anything! :/ I mean... if it's USUALLY P&P isn't that a vote for P&P?

Early on P&P was winning only the people who hadn't read them all and they were evenly distributed in the read-them-all half, but now it's got a lead in both. (Still less strong with people who have read them all though.)

[identity profile] cimness.livejournal.com 2007-03-19 01:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm really surprised that anyone voted for S&S at all, I have to say. Every time I see or read it, I want to kill Marianne. :/

[identity profile] bookshop.livejournal.com 2007-03-19 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)

I LOVE the movie but the book is so tedious. And it's actually Elinor who annoys me more on the whole, but Marianne is portrayed forever in unflattering lights, which annoys me more than anything else, I think.

Also, I have finally cast my vote for Persuasion, because given that I love both it and P&P about equally, it breaks my heart to see it so far outrun by the latter. :(

[identity profile] cimness.livejournal.com 2007-03-20 08:34 am (UTC)(link)
Marianne is portrayed forever in unflattering lights

But isn't that part of the point, since it's more or less from Elinor's point of view? I still enjoy the movie, but not without yelling at the screen.

I really like the Persuasion movie with Ciaran Hinds. I'm sad that it's under-hyped and hard to find.
