cimorene: cartoony drawing of a woman's head in profile giving dubious side-eye (all i do the whole day through)
Hey, also, I don't think I mentioned that it's basically been snowing for over 24 hours here, and for most of the middle of the day it was snowing like sideways in that "window/balcony is solid white" sort of way. But at no time during the blizzard has it been above freezing. It wasn't even sticking till noon or so but finally the sheer mass of snow just built up so it couldn't melt fast enough. OH YOU CRAZY WEATHER. I need a tag for "crazy fucking weather" or possibly "LOL global climate change" or something to that effect.

Meanwhile Veronica Mars is in severe danger of cancellation, or alternatively of s4 skipping 4 years into the future with her as an FBI agent.

And here are the movie posters and a ton of high-res stills from Becoming Jane (Jane Austen biopic starring Anne Hathaway) and they're gorgeous and I'm getting excited. Also, 4 stars from Empire and a very promising review. Yay! Time to make icons! In honour of that, and of my convincing [livejournal.com profile] aeslis to read Austen for the first time evah, a poll.

pollspam about Austen novels, Becoming Jane, Veronica Mars, Toll House cookies, and bonus! Maggie Gyllenhaal, who surprised us by being in Stranger Than Fiction, where she was awesome and hot )

i feel acutely my lack of fandom (read: arashi) participation over the last couple of weeks. ohmiya daily has been on hiatus because i ran out of capped ohmiya episodes and time for watching japanese reality tv on my own. i still love arashi! and you guys! and after my exam on monday i'm sure i will have some fandom time again.

in the meanwhile for stress relief i've been surfing delicious1 and reading stargate atlantis again. [livejournal.com profile] isilya and [livejournal.com profile] wax_jism have heard a bit of half-formed meta stewing in my brain about the phenomenal popularity of sheppard/mckay, which i think can be compared to no other fandom/OTP explosion in the past decade so germanely as to the qui-gon/obi-wan one after TPM (which was similarly popular and also based on a similarly slim foundation of canon).

1. del.icio.us-surfing procedure: click on a "also saved by n other people" link from your own page of bookmarks, preferably from a story you like a lot; the trick is not to pick a story that's been saved by too many other people. the best is one you like which isn't very popular and isn't by one of the authors whom everyone bookmarks; the incidence of their stuff is going to be high in any list of bookmarks, and it's not much use to you obviously, unless you've just discovered fandom this very instant. browse the comments/tags used by the other people who bookmarked it. click on the fandom/pairing tag of one of these users and skim their bookmarks for new reading material.

csi ny ) veronica mars ) and house was just as brilliant as everyone else is saying. i was somewhat disturbed by the fact, though, that the elder of the two guest stars bore a strong resemblance to my crazy conspiracy-theorist homophobic racist maternal grandfather. much more cultured accent though.

ooh, the new itunes has a slightly updated interface. i like it.

also, a couple of days ago i pouted until wax agreed to watch a bit of sherlock holmes with me. did you know that "the second stain" is "den andra fläcken" in swedish? it's great that their word for "stain" is the same as their word for "speck". it's one of my favourite film episodes because of the scene involving the titular stain when holmes and watson get my little rat boyfriend lestrade out of the room for about two minutes and holmes frantically examines every inch of the floor in his absence. also, holmes absent-mindedly sets the newspaper on fire at breakfast.

this was an excellent week in tv, going in order of awesomeness: csi )

almost as fun was csi ny )

veronica mars has me tickled with its new recurring secondary characters and its clever season 3 replacement for wallace and his keys to the principal's office. it's hard to know if creepy or hot is cooler in a recurring character, but luckily they've got both bases covered )

studio 60 was kind of on notice from my good graces because of being occasionally tiresome and generally less funny than it should be, so when i heard it had been renewed my reaction was less "yay" and more "oh dear, now i have to keep watching". but this time i was entertained from beginning to end, so i take that back. oddly enough, though, )

although i enjoyed it very much i have less to say about criminal minds )

torchwood made me roll my eyes a lot in between the cute bits; it was agreed, generally, that it's about time for house to have a nemesis and that we heartily approve of their choice of nemeses; and i still think stand off has "cancel me" written all over it.

alan tudyk was on csi! ♥♥♥ csi )

kirsten vangsness is a regular on criminal minds as of season 2, so can she please have some more screentime? i'm just saying, it would make me so happy. criminal minds )

csi new york was eh. also, i'm seriously disappointed to learn that mac consumes vending machine cupcakes, because ew.

it snowed practically all day and all night. i want to take pictures, but i'm too lazy to go back outside by myself, and wax is very very busy knitting me a sweater vest. so perhaps we'll watch something instead.

+ this icon is banned from the internet.

+ i really wanted to draw a pig as a personality test, but the interface is down and it keeps eating my pigs.

+ gah, it's really awful having to do useful work when your brain is full of dishevelled gary sinise and all you want to do is lie back and think "mmh mac and danny having angry sex".

+ some guy in canada wants to make the law so parents can't legally deny grandparents the right to see their grandchildren. uh. o.0

+ my parents e-mailed me that they can't afford to fly me home this summer for a visit, at least, "not without taking out a loan". the scary thing is that i couldn't tell if that last was serious or an inept attempt at a guilt trip. okay, actually, it would have been ept, but i don't think it was meant as one. but i have little patience with my own guilt-angst. if i'm not going to actually stop taking their money, wallowing in guilt is just a rather despicable sop to my conscience. so i need to suck it up, and when i can't take the guilt, stop taking the money. yeah, well. some day.

+ i've decided to listen to nothing but swedish music until i start speaking swedish more naturally in everyday situations. we'll see how long that lasts. och jag vet att ni bryr er inte om att jag säger lite på svenska.

+ veronica mars and csi: ny were both incredibly good today. my tremendous guh over the latter has somewhat eclipsed the former, but really, they were both The Sex. i briefly wanted an icon of logan. but, man. csi: ny is getting better, i think. some really powerful scenes this time, like stella's telling off the criminal in the end. mac usually comes off unfavourably when he does this: moralising and self-righteous. but stella, her composure and succinct eloquence and palpable contempt. i'm in love with stella.
