i feel acutely my lack of fandom (read: arashi) participation over the last couple of weeks. ohmiya daily has been on hiatus because i ran out of capped ohmiya episodes and time for watching japanese reality tv on my own. i still love arashi! and you guys! and after my exam on monday i'm sure i will have some fandom time again.

in the meanwhile for stress relief i've been surfing delicious1 and reading stargate atlantis again. [livejournal.com profile] isilya and [livejournal.com profile] wax_jism have heard a bit of half-formed meta stewing in my brain about the phenomenal popularity of sheppard/mckay, which i think can be compared to no other fandom/OTP explosion in the past decade so germanely as to the qui-gon/obi-wan one after TPM (which was similarly popular and also based on a similarly slim foundation of canon).

1. del.icio.us-surfing procedure: click on a "also saved by n other people" link from your own page of bookmarks, preferably from a story you like a lot; the trick is not to pick a story that's been saved by too many other people. the best is one you like which isn't very popular and isn't by one of the authors whom everyone bookmarks; the incidence of their stuff is going to be high in any list of bookmarks, and it's not much use to you obviously, unless you've just discovered fandom this very instant. browse the comments/tags used by the other people who bookmarked it. click on the fandom/pairing tag of one of these users and skim their bookmarks for new reading material.

this week on csi:ny:

hawkes: hi. i'm here investigating the murder that took place in your hospital. i'll need a list of all hospital staff who were on duty.
asshole: sheldon, my boy! i'm insulted as well as condescending!
hawkes: nothing personal, just conducting a murder investigation. it's traditional to check out who was around and -
asshole: did you come here, to the crime scene, after a murder, wearing a CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION SHIRT, to share a civil cup of tea about old times, or to investigate a murder?!
hawkes: ...is this a trick question?
asshole: how dare you police officers go around my hospital investigating things just because it was the scene of a crime!

also, hawkes flashed back to 'nam (his personal nam being the time one guy died on the operating table, even though he didn't do anything wrong and all the other doctors were like "it's okay, there was nothing anyone could have done!"), and then discovered that he was a doctor again. and mac and stella shared the Moral of the Story scene 50/50. grade: A-

this week on veronica mars, veronica had bad hair and worse makeup(--), but the plot was pretty fun. daddy mars struggled morally with his attraction to linda fiorentino (++) and briefly with a blackmail attempt from that other PI (++), who then rescued veronica at the fitzpatricks' bar (+) when she followed the customer of the week into the lions' den. veronica's trust issues were lame (-) and she was an asshole to logan about the alibi in mexico that he was refusing to tell her (--), both before and after he actually told her. that was all very noir though (+). the dean has a gambling problem and might be trying to frame mercer (+), and the professor who luuuurves veronica offered her an internship at the fbi and insisted mysteriously that it's not hush money because he has no reason to worry about people finding out about his affair with the dean's wife (+). sheriff lamb was there! (+) but only for a few lines (-). grade: A! also, + outweighed - by 3.

and house was just as brilliant as everyone else is saying. i was somewhat disturbed by the fact, though, that the elder of the two guest stars bore a strong resemblance to my crazy conspiracy-theorist homophobic racist maternal grandfather. much more cultured accent though.

ooh, the new itunes has a slightly updated interface. i like it.

also, a couple of days ago i pouted until wax agreed to watch a bit of sherlock holmes with me. did you know that "the second stain" is "den andra fläcken" in swedish? it's great that their word for "stain" is the same as their word for "speck". it's one of my favourite film episodes because of the scene involving the titular stain when holmes and watson get my little rat boyfriend lestrade out of the room for about two minutes and holmes frantically examines every inch of the floor in his absence. also, holmes absent-mindedly sets the newspaper on fire at breakfast.

i have missed chatting with you! and also ohmiya daily, i must admit. i feel the arashi portion of my brain is going stagnant for all the i admittedly spend a ridiculous amount of time pretending ohno is my girlfriend.

♥ when i have school crunch times, i need to read a constant stream of fanfic to keep my brain online and focused but i can't really chat or watch tv much at all. i will be back in a little while and then i am sure you will see me vanish for a few weeks at a time some other time in the future, like say, next semester.

although my arashi brain is still quite active, at the moment mainly with an arashi version of a crack sga au i read the other day. ohno the reluctant sheikh, sho his bodyguard who kidnaps nino for him at an international airport (without being asked naturally!) because he sees ohno eyeing him. also, jun is the crown princess and ohno's half-brother.

1. your ICON OMG.
2. in response to the above response: actually, i haven't been online much lately either. but i will be happy to see you when you are next available!
3. YES, KIDNAPPING NINO, OMG. ohno the reluctant sheikh. i could, possibly, just requote your entire paragraph back at you, but i guess i don't REALLY need to.

how does sho go about kidnapping nino for ohno? because nino's pretty observant, you'd think he would notice if he's about to be kidnapped. does sho lure him? was nino travelling by himself? what does nino think when he finally meets ohno?

also, omg, royal crown princess jun. who's aiba?

dude, sho is a SHEIKH'S BODYGUARD. it isn't hard! he just grabs him probably! he might not even do it himself, instead having minions do it. then he supervises the arrival back at the sheikh's palace and turns nino over to some servants to oil him and dress him up in harem boy pyjamas before delivering him to ohno's room. and then ohno's like "o.O wha-?"

i'm still thinking about aiba. i think he is from a neighbouring kingdom and he and ohno and jun used to be close as kids, but he has been away at british boarding schools and universities for a while, and now he's graduated from oxford law school and is going home. i'm not sure why he's going to ohno's sheikhdom, though - oh, obviously, to negotiate something on behalf of his... uncle, who is the neighbouring sheikh, right. when the negotiations get sticky, jun will solve everything by saying abruptly, "i'll marry him."

did he drug nino or something? i can't imagine nino not putting up a fuss! then again, maybe if the threat of violence were involved--

now i'm imagining, that, like, nino, oiled up and in harem pants etc, is alone in a room with ohno (okay, not alone, because you'd be crazy to leave the sheikh alone with an unknown, no matter how clearly ohno was lusting after nino in the airport), looking a little shell-shocked, but once he determines that ohno had no idea that he was being kidnapped he gets very self-righteous and is like, "well, are you just going to let people be kidnapped for your sake? they threatened me with violence if i didn't cooperate!"

and ohno's like, "no, not sho--he wouldn't--" and can't believe it and if it is true, they must Have Words, so he takes nino down to sho's office or something and is like, "sho, did you really kidnap nino using violence? i don't like that!"

etc etc. i don't think that's really--a good fit for the story, obviously. it would go much better with ohno being just--like. astounded by nino's looks and sharp temper and doesn't seem upset when nino's temper flares (at, you know, being kidnapped) and offers to let nino go home, but won't he give ohno a chance? maybe he'll like it! and really, ohno being so very ohno nino almost immediately feels like he could, in fact, sit around and stare at ohno (and do other things, of course) and take care of him.

jun totally marries aiba. yessss. :D! also, jun and nino can snark a lot at each other, at least in part about ohno. and jun can make inappropriate comments about sho's cute butt, etc.

he didn't kidnap him in europe, he kidnapped him in an airport that was already in the middle east - and he has a whole security team. so they just kind of materialize out of thin air, clap something over his mouth and drag him through a service door or something. they bring him separately on ohno's private jet and ohno doesn't even know he's been brought until they're at home.

plus, i think that as the sheikh's bodyguard, sho would have no problem both threatening and committing violence on his behalf, and ohno wouldn't have a hard time believing it. it'd be more like exasperated affection, because he's trying to remind everyone else in his country that this is the twenty-first century, guys! sho, we don't do things that way anymore! "we needed a lawyer/bricklayer/imam/silk artisan/munitions specialist, and he wasn't going to say yes," sho would explain. "yes, but we can just hire another one! that's what we have all that money for," ohno would tell him for the fiftieth time. but everyone else is just kind of tolerant of ohno's eccentricities. eye-rolling ensues. "oh, right, better not poke the guy too much, you know what the sheikh will say." "you're lucky this is the twenty-first century, buddy."

also, there is almost no realism in this situation; nino's exasperated because he has quite a temper, but he doesn't rant at ohno too long before he decides to have sex with him instead, because if ohno had a chance to present very much of his side of the story and apologise for too long they wouldn't have sex at all, since ohno's reaction is mostly embarrassed - this isn't how he wants to pick up hot guys! and his intention would be to apologise a lot and send nino back. instead, nino spends the night with him, and he tries to scold sho for kidnapping him the next morning, but nino's gone to amused and baffled and post-coital and eats breakfast in bed while ohno talks to sho and then crown princess jun makes his appearance, and he gets intrigued by mention of the water rights treaty negotiations that are going to be happening because aiba is due to arrive that day (although they haven't been told the representative is aiba. jun will still get to be surprised momentarily speechless by aiba's grown-up beautiy).

or slash, really (romance novel plots lifted, inconvenient, serious or boring bits discarded). that was where i got the idea. actually, downplaying the non-con makes it kind of less mangaish, i think.
