i heard ella fitzgerald's 'don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing' come on and danced on whim over to the couch. i grabbed orpheus's front paws--he had been soundly asleep--and danced him about a bit, then picked him up and danced him around, holding out one paw and generally jiggling him around like a bowl of jell-o, while he slowly woke up, licking his lips, blinking blearily and trying to gather the energy to flick his tail. when i set him down and cuddled him still, he made no move to get away, and when i put him back down again he blinked at me and smiled and went back to watching his fur. meanwhile perry watched the whole process, torn between jealousy that i picked orphy up and relief that it wasn't him (at least not this time).
