the canada thing...
18 Apr 2002 01:43 pmwhat can be said? i mean, our government is only incompetent when it won't inconvenience them to be, but frequently when it will be harmful to other people. they've got quite a track record, and yet somehow, new stuff like this is always surprising. i think there's a flame of patriotism everywhere here that just won't go out. go into hiding, yes. there's so much to despise, so little that's really extraordinarily wonderful, and yet that's overlooked. people like me who don't believe they're patriotic discover little bits of it lurking at odd times in strange misbegotten pride (we could blow up the earth more times than you--yes, because of military spending that makes me hate the democrats who give/buy into it to get elected) (our businesses o'er spread the earth--again, little to be proud of). i feel worse for it now, and i have practically no feeling about the military anymore. the afghanistan thing--the revulsion is so tremendous and so tired that it's deadened, finally.
