cimorenethe other day, walking on the playa, out of the corner of my eye i thought i saw a tree with birds in it. when i turned my head, a simple glance showed me that it was a man-made pole with some black fluttery things (plastic bags?) tied on it, waving in the wind. i turned away. but when i got closer, i could see that it was indeed a tall tree with crows in the top--not a light post or anything like that, certainly not with black wavy things tied to it. it didn't seem all that strange. walking alone except with a dog is kind of dream-like.
last night i saw a gray fluttering on the night sky, lit by the city's lights, and it took me almost a full minute to decide that it was indeed a plume of smoke and not a flag. but the likeness was amazing. it could just as easily be one as the other.
