cimoreneit's not just åbo akademi. or maybe it is. see, our internet service is actually provided by the university of turku (turun yliopisto, åbo universitet), but we sign up THROUGH åbo akademi since i attend there. our datacentralen has an agreement with their network. they told us that we had to come to the help desk to apply. so i went there to apply one day and found out... you can't! you need information that's printed on the wall of your apartment. do they tell you that, so you can pick the app up in advance, go home, bring it back? no. add one day.
fill out app. return it. it simply asks for a valid e-mail address which i assume means to associate with the account. they tell you that the rent includes the bill, and mention a connection fee so vaguely that i think no more about it. a week and a half, they say.
for a week and a half wax and i knit compulsively, cook, do the dishes thrice a day, and buy sheets, plates, timers, butter knives, pasta scoops, computer components etc etc etc. finally today, the week and a half up, right?, i check my email to see if there are, like, connection instructions.
no! there's a bill to pay that says it will take a week and a half FROM THE TIME OF PAYMENT. that time is five minutes ago.
so we're all systems DOWN until not this coming tuesday but the one AFTER THAT.
wax is like, 'come home. clean the house.' so yay, VACCUUMING, without internet. without music downloads, without microsoft word, without html coding program, basically, without anything except wax and a lot of movies. we haven't even got her computer and the tv connected (so we can watch dvds on the tv) because we bought the wrong kind of (Very Expensive) cable yesterday.
saturday is our flat-warming party. hopefully nobody will be able to come except the ones i already know. no more than that will fit in our two rooms plus kitchen, anyway.
