sooooo i had my minimum requisite for doing intelligent schoolwork/concentrating 4.5 hours of sleep.

but i'm definitely wayyyy too tired to eat breakfast. urgggh. :drinks more mint tea:

fact*! herbal mint tea (not the flavoured black kind which you can also get, particularly at mediterranean restaurants) has stomach-coating soothing properties and has been known to be effective, for me, with actual sickness. it also (somewhat more effectively) helps with middle of the night and early morning stomach upset. understandably, a lot of people don't like it, but i find it grows on you. they don't have celestial seasonings here, but i was really really fond of sleepytime tea--a mixture of spearmint (sharply aromatic, stomach-soothing) and chamomile (which doesn't really make me sleepy, but does help me calm down just slightly. although i don't buy its reputation as a tranquiliser. at least, it's not strong enough to be an effective one.)

* although not of the proven by scientific study variety, to my knowledge

Mmm, mint. My mum's a herbalist, and yep, peppermint tea = good for nausea. I've started adding liquorice root (literally, small pieces of dried root, looks like twigs) to the teapot as well, which soothes and calms and gives the mint a gorgeous perfumed undercurrent. If you're a fan of liquorice, that is. :)

In other still-herbal news! If chamomile doesn't work for you, and you want something herbal that does, try valerian root. Knocks people out, and bizarrely sends felines into ecstatic kitten mode. Hilarity guaranteed.

unfortunately, while i'd find that stuff easily in america, there's really no natural foods culture in finland. i don't know where to start--they don't even go in for herbal tea. there's a specialty tea shop and the clerk didn't seem to believe that was what i REALLY wanted, and in the end they turned out to have only like four kinds--two of which were just fruit infusions. i have to hope i encounter a genuine finn who's into the stuff, i guess--or have my parents mail it.
