so i went to look at the normal residence permit forms, just preparatory to going to the police station tomorrow to ask whether they were what i needed to fill out, and happened to look at the residence permit printed in my passport, and discovered it expired yesterday.  yeah, way to give me a heart attack.  hopefully i won't actually be deported. 

in other news, we spent too much money at ikea.  i was anxious before we left--"about spending money," i told wax, who laughed and pooh-poohed my fear!  i was the one who was calmly sipping tea when we looked at the receipt later at her mother's house, while she lapsed into a stunned and rather shaky stupor.  (otoh, it came out of her salary.)

speaking of shaky stupors, i really hope i won't be deported.  i feel kinda like throwing up.  (the thing is--i can't actually read my residence permit, i just figured out the date when i suddenly focused on a line of tinytiny text that was actually numbers with a precise one-year span.  that ended yesterday.)  so um.  apoplexia told me so.  i really should have listened to him more closely.

I am always letting passports expire, one visa running out before the next ones starts--haven't been deported yet but have a nice little ulcer.

I think they're pretty used to people not noticing until their old one expires. One of my fellow study abroad students in Australia got a tourist visa (6 weeks) rather than a student visa (3 months), but they didn't kick him out - they just sent ever more stridently worded notices to him until he applied for a new one.

were you only there three months? what happens to students who study the whole year?

Whoops, type-o. Should have said 6 months. I think there's a full year version, but maybe you just have to get 2 visas.
