cimorene: cartoony drawing of a woman's head in profile giving dubious side-eye (working)

i hate when professors insist on using old editions of books.  i spent an hour or so last night searching for the first edition of att tänka sociologiskt and finally found four sources who all list it as sold out/out of distribution.  the publisher in göteborg will mail directly but only inside sweden.  the library has it, but in limited quantity and with a two-week loan limit (the course is six weeks).  and it's raining and seems like the kind of day when staying home and reading in bed would be ideal. i even feel up to reading about "kommunismen" på svenska, but i have two hours of school.

i haven't written since before the weekend because i keep feeling, rather irrationally i might add, that it's more irresponsible to sit at the computer and write about john and rodney's quick arranged marriage for four hours than to sit at the computer reloading my friendspage and e-mail and trying to keep up-to-date with wank for four hours.

in fact, my irrational gut-feelings about responsible behaviour would totally allow me to sit here and write about what constitutes a spoiler for four hours (but not, mind you, if i were writing fiction about it), because i've just seen three people whose opinions i'm used to holding at high value with no questions asked express doubt as to the existence of mood spoilers.  but the bus comes in ≈15 min, so i will get dressed and just click my heels and chant "i do believe in mood spoilers!" or something instead.

I do! I do!

(And to prove it, I'm going to spoil you as to my mood this coming weekend: sad, lonely, adrift in a world that hasn't supplied me with a new SGA episode.)

Maybe because my first main subject used to be ethnology, I got so throughly used to the use of sold out books in the uni that I didn't even manage to be pissed about it. Today I finally put away the rest of my studying notes and such. Guess how many copied books I had? About a zillion. In retrospect, it would have been so much better if I could have been able to buy the books at 20-30eur instead of copying them for 10 eur. Nordic countries are so small that we are doomed to study antiqued and sold out books :(

oh my god, that REALLY IS what you people do! you just make copies! i was afraid of that.

depending on the length of the book it can actually be cheaper to buy it than copy it, i think. like this one would make about 150 copied pages, which is a bit over €20 i'm pretty sure. åbo akademi's 100-copy cards are 20 if i remember right.

Er, I'm pretty sure that with a 20€ you can get at least 400 copies. At least that what you get in TY. Try one of newer copier machines, they work so much faster than the ancient things.

ETA: a card for 400 copies costs 12€ at TY.

maybe i'm remembering wrong. i know they don't even sell 400-copy cards at åa, though, because i had to ask last year. at least the 100-copy ones last for a while. i wish they'd get a more modern card system rather than the magnetic strip paper cards they have now, but i guess that costs more money they don't have.
