rampage (http://www.rampage.com/depts.asp?deptid=16), one of the brands that turns up in department store juniors sections and the like. i've got another one by them from last year's christmas collection that's nearly as stunning, clingy scarf-skirted red chiffon, vaguely flapperesque. (both of mine were on sale at parisian, which is the much-cheaper alabama cousin/subsidiary of saks.)

and okay, now i'm at their website, and wow, check out this one (http://www.rampage.com/items.asp?deptid=25&itemid=8379).

Ah, yes. I like them - most of their stuff is too young for me now, in my staid 30's, but it's very nice.

I'm actually hating all shopping lately, as the stores (after YEARS of butt-ugly) have finally started carrying colors and cuts I love - just as I cannot possibly buy any clothes, because who knows what size & shape I will be after the pregnancy? And of course, by then, they will have gone on to the next fashion atrocity and I will have to wait years again for a good cycle - which is TOTALLY uncool, because I'd been waiting so long my entire wardrobe was starting to look tatty, so what will I do once I'm out of the maternity clothes again?

heeeeeee, but you know, i think formal dresses aren't as aged as other clothing. you could totally pull them off.

i'm curious about colours and cuts you love now! i haven't been shopping too much lately, but all spring and summer all the displays were covered in jackie o suits and gauze in bright, intense pastels. have i missed a new wave? or maybe finland really IS the land that fashion forgot and totally different from what's going on in the us now.

Except that the older you get, the less chance to wear formal clothing. Most of my friends are done getting married, and there are no proms in my future :). I have an office Christmas party, of course, but will be too pregnant to dress up for it this year (and I had, actually, bought a nice cocktail dress for it, which will likely never fit me again.)

I like a load of simple basics in my wardrobe, and I'm seeing a lot of brown cords, cabled cardigans, simple A-line skirts; colors are brown and pink and cream and black, all staples in my wardrobe, and some nice blues. I'm going to have to change my aesthetic slightly anyway - dry-clean-only clothes will be right out, except for work (all my sweaters right now are wool, and that doesn't work so well with urpy baby) but it seems like they're bringing back a lot of solid basic cuts and colors that I've been pining for. I guess I can still buy tops... I'm not likely to stop being a medium above the waist anytime soon.

Lily Cole, a really striking model. There are two LJ comms with pictures of her, [livejournal.com profile] lilycole and [livejournal.com profile] lily_cole.

now that you mention it, i suppose i've been seeing a bit more plain sweaters and blouses and knee-length skirts around--preppy things. but perhaps i just haven't been intensely window-shopping often enough. (i like to do it even when i shouldn't buy anything, but after a while of that i start to get tired of it...)
