wax insists on cutting cake the wrong way.  square pieces out of a round cake, omg!  we might get a divorce; i don't know if i can live with that, yo.

wax points out that i was supposed to have been raised not to do things the way everybody else does, which doesn't apply to cake specifically but is in a more general sense true.  i guess she'll have to take it up with my mom.  or my ocd.

Like... OMG, how? What about the edge pieces?

I thought about the geometry of that too much.

Yeah, and I'm also curious about The Why. Maybe Wax will write a poetic entry about this!

i haven't seen big pizzas in finland--they're usually personal sized, and finns eat the whole thing in one sitting; she either just picks the whole thing up and eats from the edges or she rolls it up into a... rolly burrito lookin' thing... and eats it that way.

not all the time. like she cut the first piece, and it was a wedge, but instead of in the MIDDLE of the cake, the point was like... a third the width of the cake. then when about half of it was gone, and there was like a semi circle shape, she cut out a square that also reached about 1/3 of the way.

i know! and i'm like, "but..." and she acts like i'm an evil oppressor. i say you're supposed to cut round cake in wedges, she says, "who told you that, The Man? you can just go live with The Man then, and i'm sure your cake will be perfectly cut".

yeah, it isn't a perfect square, because one of the sides was along the edge. and she doesn't cut the whole thing up that way. basically there is no pattern or organisation to the cutting AT ALL. as for the why, she claims that the wedge-shaped piece is counter-intuitive and hard to handle, that a square one makes more sense (...why not just buy only square cake pans...? i ask her and she says "i don't care, okay, i just wanted a square piece TODAY, right now!"). but i suspect she just is moved by whims and the desire to be unpredictable or something.

yeah. i'm not sure why, but it really is--maybe cause cake lasts longer.

If I had pizzas small enough to roll up into a burrito lookin' thing, that's how I'd eat pizza. Cos you can't argue with twice-as-much-cheese-per-mouthful. she says, succinctly.

i've tried it that way, and it is less messy, but i still like to eat it flat cause it lasts longer that way.
