cimorene: cartoony drawing of a woman's head in profile giving dubious side-eye (whatever)

a few people who have come over recently have wondered why my windows is styled like mac osx.  (actually they've said, staring, "do you have a mac?")  the reason is: visual styles.  chi wanted links:

studio twentyeight, where a click on 'visual styles' tells about the patch you need

there's also a lot of stuff if you surf around at deviantart.

in other news, last night i installed nero and after burning one disc, it stopped recognising that there was a blank cd in the drive.  either we've got a giant spool with a lot of bad blanks with just a few good ones on top, or nero is on the bad crack and should be ritually burnt.  possibly by tim gunn.  or daniel v.

Nero cracks are notoriously unreliable. There's at least one floating around that just randomly burns coasters. I have an actual legal copy that shipped with my DVD burner. If I ever figure out how to copy it off the disk properly, I'll send it your way.

one word link: Deep Burner (http://www.deepburner.com). Free and probably enough.
But there are lots of free or opensource CD/DVD burning software anyway.

oh no, mine is the real thing that came with the drive. i've heard several people opine that it's just a crap program, but wax thinks it's more that cd burners are temperamental.

A lot of people like Nero, but I've had three different versions and two of them consistently didn't work.

i've been trying to find reviews online and having little luck, but what i can find so far seems nero-positive. of course nero is the software that comes free and legitimate with most drives nowadays, so i think they have an edge there. however, the drive can be 'poked' into working again, as wax discovered, and she thinks it could be more the drive itself than nero. she claims burners are notoriously diva-like.
