last night i slept a total of 90 minutes. i didn't finish writing the essay i turned in today until about 5 minutes before i walked out the door this morning and i was practically late to class. [livejournal.com profile] isilya suggests that this milestone marks the edge of a slippery slope, but if so i feel it must be the bottom edge, because there's really nowhere else to slip after that, is there? for the oral portion i could have talked for a lot longer than six minutes, and despite the atrocious quality of my swedish after only 90 minutes' sleep (and thus my saying "um" more times than i ever have before in my life) my presentation occasioned the most class discussion.

and the universe dumped a prize in my lap today! a prize involving money! i've been talking lately about how i'd love to hear some live norwegian and try to converse with it, now that i speak swedish. i was awakened from a nap by a call from wax's sister-in-law's norwegian stepfather, who solicits my help translating an academic paper from norwegian & swedish into english. the last time wax and i did this as a team and he paid us with dinner at one of the nicest restaurants i have ever eaten in, but i think this time he intends to pay with actual money. plus, hello--getting paid to play with svenska akademiens ordbok and translate from swedish to english? oh frabjous day! etc, etc.

another pair of earbuds bites the dust. it's the third 4th! one to go in... twenty months i've been here. i wonder if it actually might be more cost-efficient to buy expensive ones, but i hate to do that. especially since earbuds NEVER fit in my ears right, and wouldn't it suck if they turned out to be especially bad? it would be much more galling if they had cost more than €15. i had this lovely and extremely cheap pair from target that i brought here with me that had little glasses-type hooks that went behind the ear to hold them on. i haven't seen that here, though.

confidential to [livejournal.com profile] shiroi_chi: buy the triple sec!

i've been buying earbuds in high quantity from eBay and having them all shipped at once (and then stockpiling them), but i'm thinking that suggestion may not be as useful if they have to be shipped to finland.

uh, hi. i lurk most of the time :).

really! so how much do they end up being a pair? but you're right, the shipping would be prohibitive. otherwise i would think about having my parents mail me ones from target, but they'd end up costing more than they were worth, sadly.

Um. What's the status on the alcohol stash for Sunday? I mean, should I go and buy a bottle of fizzy wine tomorrow? I was going to wheedle one out of my parents, but as I ended up not going home I'm a bit lost at the moment. :]

are you asking me? you and chi were the ones talking about fizzy wine--i just have tequila. and chi will have my triple sec with her. i was thinking of getting some cider or that lemonade-flavoured stuff (which i like better than cider) or something. [shrug]? maybe i could do fizzy wine instead? should we have a whole conversation about this with everyone involved perhaps?

Uh... yeah. I tried asking Chi earlier, about what she'd bought, but I was confused and incoherent and now I'm not sure what the conclusion was, if anything. I've got no other reason for going downtown and I'm low on cash, so I don't want to go a-shopping needlessly.

Hee. I've got a bottle of sweet fizzy wine that I like and I'm going to pick up the Triple Sec tomorrow (Cim, any brand preference, or should I just get whatever they tell me is good?). I don't need all that much alcohol, really, or if I try to claim I do remind me how my head feels after a few drinks, please. So... I dunno. I prone to understocking on booze anyway. But if we need more Alko-type stuff, say, fizzy wine, I can get that tomorrow too, people just need to pay me back.

Hmh. Where are we going to have our little congregation? I mean, if it's at my place, I feel like I should provide at least something. And. Er. If you're going downtown tomorrow, maybe we could go together? I need to go somewhere that sells decent munchies, anyway.

Where? I don't know! I don't know anything! About anything!

And yeah, sure. Let's go together. Speaking of edibles, I briefly entertained the idea of making, uh, munkkeja on Sunday, but in the absence of proper kitchenware for frying them I've given up. Woe.

I'll try to go around noon to catch the greengrocers on the marketplace before they're out of the good stuff--that okay? Maybe meeting here noon-ish or so?

(OMG I'LL HAVE TO TELL YOU ABOUT THESE BONUSES. I. NIMOY. I. AND THERE WERE HORSES. I CAN'T DECIDE WHICH WAS MORE SPECIALER.)

Sure. I'll have to swing by the Cultural history dept. first, but I'll try to show up at your place noonish. :)

no, i know nothing of brand, get whatever. you can get the cheapest one as far as i'm concerned. that might make wax sulk less. she is sad because she can't drink margaritas.

That's a kind of donuts. They're so awesomely good the day you make them! And obviously you can buy them all the year around, but they kind of belong to vappu. Like funnel cake, only I don't like that as much. But alas, I don't have a proper pot for frying them in, or possibly the patience to knead the dough either.

jöfaslkjfd. i love funnel cake but i've never heard of buying it at a grocery store before coming here. it sounds weird. i've only ever bought it fresh, like at fairs and festivals, from little booths.

something like 99 cents a piece actually. it's the shipping on which i assume they're making the money - something like 6 or 7 bucks to ship the earbuds (still much cheaper than buying them in a store, though) but they'll combine shipping so if you buy a bunch of them...

anyway, sorry for the delayed response but i think it might be worth checking out ebay if you could have someone stateside ship them to you at some point.
