yesterday:

after five hours of sleep, woke up to discover persistent lack of email from the Storage Dudes Motherfuckers. panicked. phone had been disconnected at midnight so could not call. finished packing, threw shit away, talked to rc, went to check out storage hours for the dorm next door (mine is used for housing freshman, so we can't leave stuff there over the summer). it was raining. also freezing cold. called my parents from a payphone and broke down crying hysterically in the dorm lobby. couldn't leave stuff, couldn't miss plane, had about four hours left. found my rc and begged her to help, but she was leaving, so she found two guys from my floor and asked them, and they carried pretty much all my stuff over next door (other dorm, 'member?) for me. i had an hour to kill, so took my suitcases there too and turned my key in.

then, just before 10 (beginning of storage hours), Motherfucking Storage Bastard #2 shows up and says, "hey, did you get our email?" uhmmm, no. could that be because you didn't SEND it? but anyway, he promises to return at 10. he and other motherfucking bastard carry it out to the van for me. it costs $192 even. meanwhile, it has started snowing outside and the stairwell is getting a lot colder. i cannot stop shivering.

made arrangements for airport limo to pick me up with my two huge suitcases there, instead of two blocks away at the administrative building. i spent an hour and a half in the limo, followed by about ten hours in airplanes and airports, to arrive home at 11 last night.

also, yesterday was wax's birthday! happy (*cough* belated) birthday to everyone's favorite adorable little slash goddess. i didn't forget, you understand, i just didn't have internet access.

today:

showered. went to church with daddy to meet new minister candidate. he was very cool. ate lunch with the cute gay couple. giggled a lot. (they're SO CUTE!) came home. daddy bought me shampoo and other shower necessities (him, to mom: LOOK how many PRODUCTS she wanted! me: but only four of them are for my hair... him: *mouth hanging open*).

slept, fixed im preferences and wallpaper on my parents' computer, slept a lot more. am still groggy.

where's [livejournal.com profile] hollsk? and what size of tshirt does she want?

[livejournal.com profile] undone27, [livejournal.com profile] loreleif, and any other of y'all southern belles, i'm officially back in alabama now, and more importantly, i'm going to be at this science fiction convention in huntsville, alabama, june 14-16. DSC is big for a southern one, but not actually, you know, big. it's cute, anyway. i like it.

we could have some kind of slasher's meeting, maybe? you don't have to like science fiction or anime or whatever. the lord of the rings easily qualifies. fantasy, you know.

alright, then. selections from the "discussion" and "conclusion" parts of my linguistics final paper, plus the abstract and the summaries of word meanings.

Semantics of "nonsense" exclamations in instant messaging

abstract
This article examines the meanings of apparantly onomatopoeic exclamations used in instant message conversations, which may seem like nonsense at first, such as "meh," "gah" and "meep." Twenty-four members of an online community responded to a questionnaire about their interpretations of the meanings of these words using a modified semantic differential scale. Results were tabulated and compared, and conclusions drawn about the meanings of the words. Findings showed that rather than being nonsense or completely dependent on situation for meaning, these words, while in many cases closely related, have definite meanings of their own which most members of the chosen language community can agree on.
