17 Nov 2005 11:58 ami don't think i mentioned that wax bought an ipod shuffle the other day. she was leaning heavily towards something with a hard drive at first, because she had become stubbornly attached to delilah1's menu options, but they're extravagantly more expensive and i eventually convinced her to get a shuffle instead with the argument that we hardly needed two harddriveful mp3 players in our household, when both of us spend almost 100% of our free time at home and the longest consecutive stretches either of us has for listening are her hour-long bus commutes to the nokia factory in salo. so she bought a shuffle and i promised that if she wanted to, she could take delilah to work with her instead, but as i expected, the shuffle2's sleek, design-y compactness and shininess won her over. she is infatuated. hah!
i also took the opportunity to fondle the ipod nanos they had sitting on the shelves. those babies are so so sweet, man. it's not like delilah is heavy; there are no occasions when i have needed anything even smaller than her to carry music in. but the colour screens, the tiny little menus, the little glass fronts! you almost want to make them a nest of kleenex (or little scented cushionstm). i just can't wait for the day when something the size of a nano will contain a tiny widescreen-proportioned video screen going the other direction and do what the vipod does. not because i ever have occasion to watch videos in the palm of my hand anywhere where they wouldn't give me motion sickness, but just because i will feel that the world is, overall, a better place.
i am reading about the sociology of mobile phones now in translation from finnish--a little volume based on studies financed by nokia and sonera, hah hah. did you know that finland has not only the highest mobile phone consumption in the world, but actually at this point has more mobile phones than people? it's something like 1010 mobiles per 1000 people. yes, i'm doing this now, but last night when i should have been doing it i was reading articles about css, which i have been itching to learn. just reading about it is exciting--so deliciously logical and streamlined. heart.
and! harry potter premiere tonight. i am going to wear my gryffindor tie and schoolgirl outfit. sadly, there are no cameras in our household.
1. my ipod, clickwheel-pre-photo generation
2. named samson, of course. this is wax.
