boxing day in england, and in america? "the day after christmas".

back from christmas and still alive, and feeling a peculiar combination of intense serenity and decided misanthropy.

in top exciting christmas news: a mini-box of the Q episodes of star trek (tng, ds9 and voyager, but not the squire of gothos, for some reason. i already have that in the tos boxes though, so it's just as well). i was astonished and delighted to see that they had those in anttila a few weeks ago, but what a good idea! i have marathoned them in the past few years already (to my delight) because anglepoiselamp is also a big Q fan, and we had a mini Q-fest at least once (followed on my part by a mini-orgy of rereading telesilla's picard/q fic). you really can't have too much of those episodes, though.

we watched the hogfather miniseries and it was great, and also (relatedly) in my slow progress through wax's complete pratchett collection i finally reached carpe jugulum and the first appearance of the nac mac feegle. ♥ pictsies!

i have to say, though, i still feel rather uncomfortably full, a state which has persisted for two days or more. i am not sure that i'm on board with the nordic conception of christmas, which is the same as other people's conception of "eating as much as or more than you can possibly stuff into your face for several days running, with breaks between meals only to clear the table, do the dishes, and then set it again". on the other hand i am totally on board with  wee straw snowflake christmas ornaments. still, i ended up missing my mother and thinking uncharitable things about other people's ways of doing things when they differ from hers, which i know are irrational but i guess are par for the course (like rubber placemats and paper napkins on the table for big fancy meals, which still have the power to shock me).
