This week while sick I have completely redesigned my website and am almost completely happy with it1, which has made it easier to continue adding my old recs page to del.icio.us. It displays alright with regular Arial and Verdana, but for the effect I wanted you have to download the exquisite script font on the splash page.

I've now tagged all Due South, Good Omens, Highlander, and Harry Potter bookmarks (there were something like 130 of the latter, and to my pleased surprise, most of the broken links turned out to be fixable with a bit of googling) and moved on to the LOTR ones. The old version of the recs site will remain up in its current state (with all the broken links, that is) until I finish adding all of it to del.icio.us - then it will come down and I'll work on replacing it with a new, streamlined version.

In wholly uninteresting news to the rest of you guys, but totally squee-worthy for me, I slept easily all night last night once I put a hot water bottle behind my neck to correct the problems I incurred by napping squinched into an awkward bent-up ball on the too-short couch all afternoon. That MEANS that the Demon Cold of Carmela is going away! My head is still, you know, containing bits of diseased slime, but the balloon feeling is gone, as is the weak-at-the-knees feeling and the might-barf-if-I-eat-that feeling. I just have to finish sneezing/horking up the rest of this slime and I'm good.

1. Except for the mystical ghost margin that appears in both the new beta Opera and the last stable version and won't go away no matter how many times I set the margins to 0. This is annoying, but doesn't really affect the contents of the website, so whatever, maybe I'll tackle it when I'm feeling strong and powerful later or something.

That's not some grody reference to the guy with the horse wife. It's what Wax has been reading since she woke up like six hours ago: this huge page that's an archive of crazy and/or stupid and/or wanky horse owners and breeders, all compiled by a single snarky woman, sort of like Go Fug Yourself. I don't know much about horses, but it's still funny from where I'm sitting (ie three feet to the left of the monitor. Badum ching). And she keeps LOLing and telling me things that don't actually make sense. She says, "Well, it makes a change from reading fandom wank," by which she means day-to-day fandom annoyances and not the actual community fandom_wank, which she only occasionally reads.

The best part was the guy on Craig's list who emailed a horse rescue place that he had just gotten a DUI so he needed a horse to ride instead. "Ps I can also take care of her/him :)".

Going through my LOTR recs and adding them to delicious, I've been struck by the sense that grade-A crazy bitches were thicker on the ground there than in other fandoms. That could be partly because it was just a bit smaller so they were more noticeable than in, say, Harry Potter, where the crazy ones are famous but everyone knows there are 200,000 ordinary-ish ones for each. Or it might just be a bizarre coincidence that I happened to know a handful personally. (I do think you can pretty much count the LOTR RPS crazies here since their fandom, while a distinct subgenre, can't exist without reference to the LOTR movies and it definitely sprang out of LOTR fandom initially.)

Thoughts? Lotr: crazier or not? Why?
