cimorene: minimal cartoon stick figure on the phone to the Ikea store, smiling in relief (call ikea)

We bought ourselves this vintage clock for our last anniversary, from eBay. (Our this-year anniversary - the 12th - was Thursday.) It was supposed to be in working order, but when we put the battery in it didn't work. After like five months I learned that it's not that complicated to replace a battery-powered clockwork motion, but we couldn't quite figure out how to remove it, and we didn't get around to determining the location of a jeweler/watchsmith until a week ago. I took the clock there last Tuesday and it was ready an hour later, meaning it took us exactly 363 days to complete the process of acquiring this 11th-anniversary present.

In spite of this less than stellar success, we're extremely happy with this clock, which is an incredibly cute "atomic" style Junghans that was shipped here from France. The clock face has a little brass-edged hinged plexi door in front of it that you can open and is set in this funky shape made out of vintage white laminate. We started talking about buying something similar for our just-past anniversary as well - maybe a vintage thermometer to hang on the livingroom wall instead of the ugly plastic one that's there now.

Tristana never misses a shower, because she loves to chase water droplets. Here she got distracted briefly by the shower curtain as well. I honestly thought she was going to fall off:
