One weird piece of tape at a time
2 Jul 2022 06:23 pmIn our cute little old lady tenant's defense, normally the old tenant would have a few days to clean up their stuff. Our two new adult tenants, the Ukrainian sisters in law (of each other, not us), wanted to move in badly enough that they came over yesterday and spent most of the afternoon and evening cleaning when she and her friends had juuuuust barely managed to get her stuff out. And not quite all of it.
When Wax and I went over today, the children were around the table while their mothers moved beds into position, but a freestanding kitchen cabinet was still in the kitchen. Wax and I carried it out to the garage, which is still half full of her things, as is the yard around the corner of her side of the house - what if it rains?!
We dragged the dishwasher up the stairs with great difficulty - it was installed when she moved in but she had a guy uninstall it. On the plus side we finally deciphered the world's worst installation diagram, but on the minus side, the prescribed anchoring is... not very secure.
There were screws and nails all over and no less than 10 plastic stick-on hooks in 6 different styles scattered at apparent random on the backsplash above the sink, like a splatter pattern. There's glue residue all over the walls from notes written on masking tape and electrical tape, and the front of the dishwasher she uninstalled has a big glue patch on the handle where the manual was attached with duck tape.
They've got MIL's old futon folded up as a sofa (a super disreputable one with a bleach stain) and our old kitchen table, donated along with my favorite tablecloth (the most appropriate in size and laundry-friendly), they've got all the beds and mattresses set up, the cute little old lady left them two sets of metal shelving for toys, and Wax gave them the wifi password, so... I guess it's going okay.
