new cat pains
17 Sep 2024 11:22 pmSo Sipuli arrived Saturday and is a delight. She's a great cat and she's adorable and sweet and affectionate. She's also timid and cautious and she and Tristana are both still afraid of each other.
In fact Tristana is more afraid. Sipuli will come up to the baby gate and peer through; Tristana only stares from half the room away. Today is day three and marks the first time she came closer to the gate than a sofa's length away, and she ran away as soon as she saw Sipuli.
But this is still less time than it took her to stop running and hiding from Luci, who is a very small and unassuming Havanese dog (like a Maltese or Bichon frise, but slightly bigger, and brown). It took Snookums three days to emerge from the sauna when we got him, so she's ahead of that too. Some cats - though none of ours yet - take up to a month.
But we're cat divorced until Tristana stops being afraid of the baby gate. Wax is sleeping downstairs with Sipuli for now, but we could switch. The door isn't closed been the dining and living rooms like before, just blocked with a gate, so we can see and hear each other through it. But it still seems too mean to leave Sipuli alone for long, at least unless she's happily napping. After all, she's less jumpy than Tristana, but she's the one who is in a new place.
