"Right, uh, okay, I - should I start with last week and go forward? Or this week and go back? Well, anyway, I noticed I couldn't fit into an old pair of black skinny jeans this morning, and rather than angsting about it or saving them for later I threw those fuckers away," says Gerard. Patrick makes a thumbs-up. Spencer has removed his jacket and arranged himself in his chair by this time, and looks up with a grin, although whether this has more to do with supporting Gerard or with his general opinions on appropriate pantswear is unclear. "Oh, and yesterday I pigged out and totally ate like an entire lasagne, and then I had a milkshake and didn't cry," Gerard finishes.

Spencer and Patrick both nod encouragement. Not crying is something Gerard has to work on; he's already gotten a lot better at it. "What kind of milkshake?" says Patrick.

"Oh, vanilla," says Gerard, "yeah, from McDonald's."

The waiter appears, responding to psychic signals or possibly that thing Spencer just did with his hand, far faster than any waiter has ever appeared for Patrick when he wasn't dining with Jay-Z. "So now you can have another milkshake, and not cry again," Spencer says.

"No smoking," Patrick adds, when Gerard starts patting his pocket. "They'll make you skinny."

"Sure, a vanilla milkshake," Gerard shrugs. "If I manage to quit smoking this'll be officially the best support group ever."

"I think the best would be if we had a lot of group sex," Spencer says thoughtfully. And then, "Oh, chocolate for me," while Patrick and Gerard exchange Looks.

Have you been opening the badfic at all? In FOB there's an almost-crystal-clear delineating line between the slushpile at the plebe community and the other stuff. If you read from recs you wouldn't encounter much of it.

Heh, no, reading from recs only. There are very few fandoms where I read cold, and when I do I am usually sorry. I use a *really* wide variety of reccing sources (including you, ♥) so I'm pretty sure I'm gleaning a broad view of what's out there.

Recs lists cannot protect you entirely from badfic, and they certainly can't protect you from more mundane fic that happens to be bad, but they will at least insulate you from the bottom of the slushpile, and certainly they will stop you from realising the quantity of it. The almost-readable+ output of FOB is a tiny, tiny fraction of the total. There are fewer than a hundred readable Patrick/Pete stories in existence (I would say), but skip=360 on the main page of the patrickxpeter plebe community will only take you back to this February.
