There are slight wrinkles visible, because this was painted on the back of wrapping paper stretched over a square of cardboard. I originally planned to paint directly on the cardboard, but I didn't trust myself with a pencil on the painted cardboard. If only I'd had a nice piece of wood! And we couldn't afford a pre-stretched canvas last week.

The paint is acrylic, and the pose isn't based on any photo in particular - which is why I was surprised that it turned out looking like her. I enjoy drawing people in the more photorealistic style, but I am not nearly as good at it without a model to work from, and when I attempt this slightly stylised, cartoony version, the images often don't come out looking like the subjects. Maybe I'm getting better, or it was just dumb luck. It did take a bit of struggling, as the initial sketch looked much more like my little sister.

Carmela had asked for "princess items" and the party was deluged with them, the belle of the ball being a wee fold-out foam sofa in a licensed Disney Princess print from Wax's homophobic granny. It was actually completely nauseating. I love frilly dresses as much as the next person, but I'm a violent detractor of the Cult of Pink. I originally had considered making her dress pink in the painting, and chose blue mainly because of the colour scheme, but I'm really glad I did, because mine was the only princess-related contribution that wasn't nauseatingly pink.

The painting is totally adorable.

Even as someone raised on Disney and definitely a great lover of Disney animated features, I find the Disney Princess stuff a little overwhelming. :/

That's really good. It has character, it's not just saccharine. You can see the mischief in her expression. I like it.
