Okay. So... yesterday I tried to register a second delicious account for use with people who don't know my fandom name. And the email to my Real Life email address didn't arrive. And suddenly I remembered approximately 10 other emails to that gmail address that I should have gotten, and didn't get, over the last year, including one just last week.
The thing is, in the Account Settings in gmail, you can easily register a second account and link it to your primary account. Then, when you send messages, you can choose which one to display from a drop-down menu. This I set up a year ago. What I didn't realise is that while that automatically links the two accounts... it doesn't automatically link the INBOXES. Yes. Apparently, gmail is under the impression that there's a big demand for sending email from an email address, and then NOT HAVING THE REPLIES TO YOUR SENT MAIL COME BACK TO YOU (in the same place, that is - you can still get them by logging out of your account and then logging in as the second name). Well, I ask you. Why didn't that occur to me? Because it wasn't in the directions for linking the accounts and WHY WOULD ANYONE WANT TO DO THAT.
Anyway, I went looking, and found out I had to enable POP access while logged in as the secondary account, then set the primary account to collect the mail via pop in addition to the steps I had to go through a year ago, to show them both belonging to me in the first place.
UGH. I went back and found answers from my old high school friends whom I met last summer at the wedding - answers I had no idea of, which I therefore didn't answer. -_- So the upshot was that I added my second gmail account to my chat program's list of accounts. Since I have the ability to send messages to myself, there are now two copies of me on my buddy list at all times.
